The misses sent me a FB ad a few weeks back of a free wood ad, I replied right away saying I would take it, the next day I get a reply saying someone beat me to it and said they would take it, I said to let me know if they back out. Fast forward 2 weeks and I get a message saying they never came asking if I still want it, so I say sure.

The ad said it was mostly basswood with some oak and maple in it, probably a few truck load, I'm thinking I can probably do it in 2 maybe 3.

I got out of work a little earlyer today so I swap trucks when I got home and headed over, only 8-10 miles from my house so nice and close.

When I got there he wasn't kidding, it will probably take me 5-6 loads.
Got one load, it's 83F out so I was sweating like a sob when I got done.

It will make really good fall/spring wood when I don't want to be burning my good hardwood. I will be taking the iso-core next time so I can split before I load and get a little more on the load.

I gotta get a HD truck. The prices are still kind of crazy. My Tacoma would die with 1/2 that load.

Darn thing’s not even squatting! Gotta love the scores where everything’s already bucked and you can just pull up and load

Truck prices are nuts, I got this one for $1200, it's been used and abused before I got it but I use and abuse it just as much and she does good so I can't complain.

Back up, load and go is awesome, very rare for me. And it is really nice when it's 80 some degrees out.

That really is a great score, that'll save a bunch of better stuff for the cold weather. Nice going!

I’ve sweated gallons this week getting free red oak. I ended up cutting splitting loading up and driving 10 miles then unloading and some more splitting and stacking in 80 degree temperature and humidity. I have 3 loads of green oak that I found two weeks ago and 3 loads of seasoned oak. Split and stacked I probably have two chords. But I will only be able to burn half of it this winter because the green wood was cut the beginning of august. I find plenty of free firewood posted on fb market place too. So that is how I became a firewood hoarder. Got to install my Fisher insert but I plan on using up the 1/2 tank of lpg before I remove my gas logs. I have a cast iron insert boot and a 8” stainless green flue liner kit. I’ve got some ideas on retaining the inserts damper but I have to come up with a way to seal the damper rod as it will have to go through the boot liner. I also have a insulation kit so when I start changing from lp to wood everything will be on hand.

You folks have any experience getting a airtight seal around a 1/2” damper rod. Does anyone know of a high temp sealant or seal that I can make or buy. I’ve searched the web
And can’t find anything that would work. [IMG]

High temp (red) silicone orings, or high temp silicone hose work? They use that stuff on turbo's/exhaust applications that can get well over 1000*F.

Went and got load #2, all basswood this load, spent some time with the iso-core and split it as I loaded.

Took few mins over an hour to split and load.

Whats left of the main pile. Getting into a few rows of oak and maple next.

Think it's time to take the misses out for Friday night fishfry and a couple cold drinks to loosen the back and shoulders up :beerbbq:
