Bicycling today in rural Northern Kentucky and came across a sure sign of fall in our area; tobacco hanging in the barns to dry before being auctioned.
Kinda neat. That's something one never sees in east of Cascades PNW. As for summer slipping by....... No it hasn't it's dragging by very slowly in this drought stricken region I live in.
About 25 miles northeast of me in the Connecticut River valley is where they grow that “famous” Connecticut tobacco used in cigar wrappers. I’m sure it’s the same scene up there right now. Miles and miles of fields recently cut with rows of enormous barns chock full of tobacco leaves being hung up to dry.
Many, if not most, of the tobacco bases around us are turning into hemp farms. Riding the wave in hopes the state leagleizes cannabis in the near future.
I was motorcycle riding outside Hawesville area a couple years ago, and was behind an a wagon loaded down with tobacco. Wished I had some company to have enjoyed the sight. temps are finally dropping enough to get some serious work done. I was up Saturday morning awaiting daybreak to get on the tractor. I have done no cutting since early Spring
This is the time of year when 99 and I would look back onto summer and list all of the places we didn't get to go to or the things we didn't get done. (Of course, we also spoke of the things we did accomplish and the places we went.) Since we retired, we haven't had that conversation at all!
