Answered a FBMP ad. Guy is clearing a lot to build a house. Right now it's just mud and these huge chunks of 4" gravel and a bunch of heavy machinery there and a whole big ol' pile of black locust and red maple.

He was almost begging me to just take it away. So I obliged.

Took two loads thus far and going to go back for more.

This was yesterday's haul. Used the Stihl 028 to cut them to manageable lengths and then filled the bed.

Bark has fallen completely off the logs which are all black locust.

That’s a beautiful thing. I’d take a day off work for that. Probably rent a dump trailer and sweet talk em to load with skid steer if available. I was doing some splitting last night and am about out of room. Gotta move some wood around to make room and maybe finally take up friends offers to store at their acreages enjoy that find and hoard on

The guy offered to help me load but I politely declined and told him the inches on my waist require me to pass on his generous offer.

The 3 times I've been there there wasn't a soul there either....which is fine by me...They do have a bunch of heavy machines there if someone were to take it all. He guesstimated that there's 12 truckbeds of wood there and I'd say he's pretty close. I took 3 and it doesn't even look like I made a dent in the pile! Will go back for more maybe on Tuesday!
I split a few and didn't measure it. I have plenty for this year already so this is slated for winter 2022! I think in a super sunny spot it would dry in time.

I offered the spot to all my wood chopping buddies (I only have a few) and they all said they haven't even chopped all the rounds I gave them previously!!! hahahahaha.

Yep, we’d fire up the half tracks and hueys for that score :) retrofitted with AC of course.

Don’t overdo it down there Lord……but do it!!

It was blazing hot today. 93 and I had to, of course, get dressed up in a shirt and slacks to do a piano recital with my daughters. Yay! I was melting! It was too hot to split.

I'm doing it.....one truckload at a time. It's nice not to have to rush......I'm going to see someone on Tuesday to pick up some Ash logs as well!

It certainly is nice to not have to rush. I’m not good at it :)

Nice. Good to see all that wood is going to be used for heating some ones home instead of being left to rot.

I just measured a barkless round I split and it was already at 15%! So to answer your question, yes, it will be ready for this winter. It's nice to have a stash of black locust ready to go!!!

My whole life I was told to slow down.....and now that I'm slowing down all I hear is......."HURRY UP!!!" :headbang:

That is one of the main reasons why I split. I constantly wonder why I didn't get into it earlier than I did.....But it's kind of like those things you can't un-see - once you're in the know, it's up to you to do something about it.
