You know, I think it do recall seeing a JD power washer years ago...they really have capitalized on their name over the years...
I was gonna say re-branded Efco, but someone already mentioned it. My wifes grandfather had one. Pretty small, maybe 45-50cc. They used to sell them in Baileys.
My first two sleds were the first gen Liquifire's. Straight from the John Deere race program! Yepper, they actually had a team back then. These were very quick machine's for the era. Even stock. They were also notoriously heavy. AKA The Lead Sled. These had the Kiortiz KEC-440/23LC engine's. Bulletproof except for the CDI box. I believe the change to Kawasaki power came in 79. Along with a drastically changed chassis. I better stop. I can get carried away with sled talk I've never had JD saw....
Echo painted JD yellow I had a old 340 polaris a friend wrecked his 500 so I took the 500 engine and put it in the 340 it ran real well then then I had the bright idea to put on the bottle (NOS) it was real fast for a little while then I found a oak tree with it BEER and speed were involved . JB
I know my deere dealer has John deere gas air compressors, one with a welder and pressure washers on the floor now and if I recall correctly a generator also.
That looks to be in nice, complete shape!! I don't know how far back or if it applies to a Yellow one but echo has a lifetime ignition warranty.
This is the 250 I was rocking in the 70’s my dad had a 300 My uncles grandpas poor farmer sled pulled the images from google, but I remember them like yesterday. We left the land of 10,000 lakes in 83. Don’t need sleds in NC.
You guys got my memory working thinking of my teen years. We had a JDX4, a 300, a 600, a 440 Cyclone and a 340 Trailfire, The dealer's son was a young guy in his 20's, so I took a few rides on his 295SS and 340SS cross country race sleds, as well as a Liquidator, the sled that the factory race teams won races with. Ah, the good old days!
Yep same here…. Sparked a trip down memory lane. My dad sold Kawasaki in the early 80’s. Uncles, cousins… everyone had snowmobiles back then. Of course we used to have winter too
Getting my vintage sled juices flowing! Great pics. I also had a 340 Colt free air. She was baaaad fast and ate plugs like candy Still can't believe my freshly minted wife rode that sucker double with me We were apparently much smaller humans back then...... Haaaaa. We need to start a vintage sled thread (if there isn't one?)
Alcohol & speed were the real fun back in those days! JDX8, Spitfire & a 440 Liquifier were what we had. We'd run the crap outta those machines across the fields for miles. Oh yea, & the '65 Scorpion that would backfire & singe the hair in a very bad place.
Sounds about right. In the mid 90's we'd make beeramids off the sides of trail pull ours. Then someone would come hauling along and bowl then all down. Sometimes, the beer would get a bit frothy in the back of the sled and you'd have to shotgun them.
I have dad's Allis Chalmer's chainsaw, bought the old sled off of him years ago, a 1972 Massey Ferguson. We had a semi V bottom aluminum boat we made into an air boat using a Tecumsah engine and wooden prop. Dad owned a gas station and wrecker service. 2 JD 440 liqua fire snowmobiles in their crates fell off of a train going through town. Dad moved them with his wrecker and insurance gave him the one that was totaled for the wrecker bill. We put that engine on the air boat. MAN WHAT AN AIR BOAT THAT ENGINE MADE IT INTO!!! Had to tie the nose of the boat before starting, starting on choke would flip it near end over. Loved morel mushroom hunting in that boat!
Sorry, late to this thread. In the late 70's, the JD LiquiFires and Rupps were the fast sleds around here. There were several of them I rode with on my Scorpion Whip. Then I got tired of being behind and got an '81 Scorpion SideWinder. Fun times back in the day. The Whip was long with a wide track and was a great hill climber. The SideWinder just flat hauled @$$, and looked great doing it.
