My current stove makes a lot of household dust. I put a deposit on a new Ideal Steel. Along with longer burn times and reduced wood consumption I'm hoping for much less dust in the house. Is this a realistic expectation?
I think it's fair to say that any stove that uses less wood, and less reloads, will create less dust in the house. I think the best way to keep ash dust out of the house, is not have the stove in the living space. I've been considering getting an add on wood furnace like the kuuma for in the basement, and using the insert we currently have for extra heat when needed as well as when I want to see flames. You will never need the stove with a Kuuma in place...my drolet in the fireplace sits unused a lot these days! To OP, dust in the house probably can't be completely eliminated, but a well designed stove, and a PROPER chimney, along with careful ash management, goes a long ways to minimizing it!
The only time there are ashes on the ash lip for our IS, is for the 20 seconds from loading to immediately being vacuumed or swept up. We are a little CDO (CDO is OCD but in alphabetical order like it should be )
