What was his hand doing in front of the barrel?! ...sorry, bad joke. :picard:

This is the first I have heard of the brass coming off... I will have to look into it.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR HENRY RIFLE
DO NOT USE AN AGGRESSIVE SOLVENT ON THE RECEIVER COVER. WE SUGGEST THAT YOU USE
BIRCHWOOD CASEY GUN SHEATH OR A MILD SOLVENT SUCH AS HOPPEā€™S NO. 9, KLEENBORE OR
    BREAKFREE.
HENRY ALSO OFFERS A BRASS POLISHING CLEANER ONLINE: HENRY BIG BOY METAL POLISH.
    www.henrypride.com/collections/cleaning
Regular cleaning is important in order for your gun to operate correctly and safely. Taking proper care
of it will also maintain its value and extend its life. Your gun should be cleaned every time it is used.
In order to clean it, we suggest that you first open the action by cycling the lever down/forward.
Using a brand name cleaning kit, run the cleaning rod down the bore from the breech towards the
    muzzle.
Note: Use a brand name cleaning kit and clean the bore from the breech end. Then clean the bolt and oil it
before replacing. To reassemble, simply do the reverse

    Ok, sounds reasonable enough.

Speaking of gun cleaning. Is hopps 9 ok down the barrel or do I need to follow it with an oil after I clean it?

    You did great.
How are those .22 magnum rounds? I would think that they would be small for whatever that animal is, but you clearly had no issue. Is that javilina?

wild pigs in SC, there were trapped then shot.
The 22magnum is a lot more potent than most people realize. I had an uncle as well as a friend that killed a tone of deer with a 22mag before they passed away. Neck or head shots within 100yds and they drop in their tracks

I do a follow patch with a light gun oil. Not heavy. I'm a big Ballistol fan.

Does anyone know about PONE (precision one) ammo? I see it in the 45-70 sometimes along with Springfield rounds. I know Springfield are usually less powerful and as far as I can tell, the PONE is re-manufactured?
I don't really care if it is re-manufactured or lower powered or whatever... is any of this going to blow up in my barrel?

I don't know this brand but I've bought from a remanufacture company called Grizzly for some .45 ACP. These groups may be taking some time to come back as supplies have been slow to come back but they are coming back. That being said, these companies do well to stay within confines of loading safely. Give it a shot.

Precision One 45-70 Ammunition Trapdoor Version PONE882 350 Grain Flat Point Case of 200 Rounds

So here is the link for context. There is a big text block that says "for Marlins only". What's that about? 45-70 should be almost identical to a Henry.
I had/have some remanufactured HSM cowboy action loads. They are fine, just smokey.

PONE has an addendum 4-2020. Says the bullet profile will not work with the redesigned Henry, but perfect for the Marlin. Loaded for Trapdoor pressure so pretty mild.
The bullet profile thing is odd, may be feeding issues is my guess.

I sent a message to PONE a few weeks ago but they never got back to me. I found some comparable rounds that were just a little more expensive. At 2-4 bucks a round, I tend to search a little before ordering. o_O

I have an Octagon Frontier in .22mag. Great gun, shoots dead nuts out of the box.

So I had this issue of some hot rounds consistently hitting about 6 inches too high with my 45-70. I was shooing from a bench rest so I didnt think I was flinching.
Turns out that when you have high power rounds, they can cause the rifle to rise up before the round leaves the barrel. I guess this is a common thing for heavy Turkey loads in shotguns.
    Just thought it was interesting.

Indeed they emphasize the recoil on that one is strong. I can't help but think that the 45/70 is a bit like shooting a 20 gauge slug being 3/4 of an Oz. Mind you some of the speeds for those slugs are slower by 4-500 fps but recoil would also depend on how heavy the gun you fire it from. The turkey load speeds get pretty interesting but then so do all the kinds of things they get loaded with: bismuth, steel, TSS, duplex loads...they can be all over the place and I'm not even gonna get into that whole reloading topic, people do that on their own recipe as well. Hope that ammo works well for ya. I'm eye-balling a 30-30 with the side loading gate as my next Henry.

I saw some guy on YouTube shooting 500+ grain hand loads. Ouch. You could see his whole body recoil.
I am a huge fan of the side gate. I am shocked that that is a new development for Henry. I guess they have been flying off the shelves since that add on. I don't even use the tube, I don't like round falling on their primers, even if it is "safe".
