That's kinda what it looks like. Taken down by coyotes ? When we had an abundance of coyotes here I was finding deer parts here and there. They've finally moved on but are still around occasionally. I'm not seeing foxes but I am seeing rabbits, mostly around supper time. I'm not liking seeing rabbits with no fence around my newest garden yet. I got away with no fences with an overabundance of predators.
Great picture. Next time can you put a yardstick out there so I can get a better idea of height and while you're at it maybe a scale to get weight. Looks like a decent size female carrying a deer leg back to the den. Looks like she's still nursing. Big belly. A while back a friend up in Tioga County had a trail cam set up close to a coyote den and had 20 pics of Mrs Wile E. Coyote carrying fawns back to the den in one year.
Thanks all. I too think it is a leg of deer but for sure a fawn rather than adult. Last year I tried to rescue a fawn coyotes were trying to take down but could not catch up to them. Also in the last few years we have not had as many coyote hunters after them so the yotes are getting thicker. Just as bad, we are seeing more dogs running free, like this big one.
Opossum, he's got it almost by the head, they do have a very long tail. My guess here... We actually have lots of coyote's here. Opossum is one of their diets, that and feral cats! But I have to agree with the rest, looks like fawn leg parts
I am eagerly awaiting the reintroduction of wolves around where I live. The elk are too brazen given the (current) lack of predators that pose a threat to healthy adults, they need something out there to keep them on their toes. Plus, I think the wolves will put some much needed downward pressure on the mountain lion population around here. Lots of big cats out this way.
