Bumped into this, just had to call......
45 minute talk later it was agreed upon to mail a deposit out Monday.
Not sure where to put it but I'll give it respect.
I was the first person in almost a month of it being listed who was interested in it for more than just the rebuilt engine.
A close friend of his rebuilt the complete machine and then suffered a stroke. After years of having it he worried about it being cut up if he passed so a good home was needed.

Cool...seems like you should be able come up with something interesting to do with that!
Just make sure to keep the key away from the Mrs...hate to see her string you up with it!
I suppose the crank start might prevent that though...;) :D

With work and the covid crap we couldn't pull it off this year. Missing it was a real difficult decision to make.

When the owner realized that I wasn't just going to take off the engine he actually gave me a really good almost silly low price.
I'll just say that it is a vintage powered clothes line that i bought for her.

Make a hell of a truck winch. Probably needs more than a harbor freight hitch adapter.

Drum winch and capstan on a mobile power pack. That's what I've been thinking about for my hobby farm logging setup. Basically a modern steam donkey to forward with.

Actually this is a donkey although it was sold for construction.
Basically a winch that is reduced in pull force with a trade for speed. It also has multiple speeds, safety brakes, anti reverse pawls along with inching clutch ect.
It sat on the ground and powered a tower hoist.

Ive seen similar hoists for small mine shaft hoists on a headframe. Much bigger setup would be needed for a commercial mine but could still be used for support utility shafts.

I'd love to see stuff like that.
    No such opportunities around me.

I'd love find a winch setup like that for a cheap price. I've been looking but stuff out of the oil patch is usually to high though much, much cheaper than new.

I've wanted a tractor logging winch for awhile but haven't saved up the coin. Well, I did but used it for new AC compressor and EVAP coils. Then our water heater started leaking so I replaced it....then we got a new used car for the wife and had to tax, title, and plate it.

16-20k hydraulic or PTO winch and my own welding would work for a logging winch for awhile at a fraction of the cost of a manufactured one

That capstan would work wonders for lighter pulls with rope like the Norwood skid-winch, but on steroids.

Nice rig. Pulling logs up a steep slope with a guy line? Set up your own ski slope?
Not sure what you’ll end up using it for but good that you rescued it from oblivion.

At $400 bucks and a couple hour ride I'm not risking much.
I already have another, albeit smaller construction winch and that has been rather useful.

I bought Wendy from the son of the original owner. It was bought in the 50's for their company building, repairing and demolishing dairy barns. When I got it hundreds of feet of rusty cable was on the drum. To demolish a barn the cable was looped completely around the barn about 10' off the ground using 1 pulley. The winch was anchored to whatever was available and away it went basically imploding the barn.
He wanted $75 dollars firm and I shaking with anticipation handed it over. As he brought it to my truck he asked if I was in a hurry and when I said no he said that he wanted to hear it one more time. It runs???? I think I squealed like a school girl.
He put some gas in, waited a minute, flipped the choke and proceeded to turn it over by hand no rope nothing. 2 turns it was running. I just assumed that it didn't run never even asked.

Nothing wrong with a good gas powered winch. My brother in law has one on the front of his goose neck flat bed trailer. We will cut logs to about 6 foot lengths and then get the cable from the winch around two or three at a time and winch the logs up on his trailer.
I am on the right in the picture with the green chaps.
