    It’s alive with pollinators and smells kinda funky.
    Nuts are edible for humans and loved by squirrels and deer.

    Nice looking trees. Looks like my area (zone 6a) is too cold to grow dwarf Chestnuts, hence why this is the first time I'm seeing one.

    Wow, lots of flowers on that. I don't remember ever seeing one of those either - but I'm in zone 5 so the only time I would have seen one is while traveling - and then I woulnd' have known what they are.

    That (chestnut) looks like the pair my father planted 60 or so years ago. One died in the drought a few years back and the other has had its top blown off. Has never had nuts despite all the blossoms. He planted them right near where a regular chestnut tree used to be that he harvested nuts from since he was a kid.

    This chestnut used to have a sibling, but it died several years ago. They are susceptible to the blight, but I don’t know why it died. It looked super healthy until it wasn’t.
