Here's a thought. Put boiling water in a thermos, seal it! Come back in a couple days and the water is now warm if not ambient temp. "Everything" absorbs and dissipates heat! I worked in the Thermal dynamics and metals lab and heat is not and never constant! Heat has to be produced and is energy. Our earth has a molten core which is ever so slowly cooling, hence Volcanos. It's been doing it for millions of years and the sun is doing the same, ever so slowly. But, before the sun actually quits, it will give us a furnace blast like none other. In the 1970's people were preparing for the coming "Ice age"! I lived through this and it was all over the TV, Time magazine, NY times, Rolling stone, BBC and you name it! All of a sudden it went away, and the scientists that were working and feeding the news media got ALL THE FUNDING they needed from their favorite political party. I worked and saw first hand, that if a grant was given to a certain field of study, they would receive $$$$$$$$ to publish it or relinquish it to the media without ANY rebuttal Hmmmmmmmm....... Wonder why? Follow the $$$$$$$$$

Truth is they've been forecasting doom and gloom for over 5 decades, the predictions' (Maldives sinking, they've grown, glaciers gone by 2020, they are still there although currently shrinking after a brief expansion, Florida sea levels will grow by several feet by 2020, they've grown 3in, ice age by 21st century) have failed again and again, why? Climate change is an extremely extremely complex science that is not fully understood. Perhaps carbon emissions may have an impact on global climate, there isn't concrete evidence to prove it just yet and most predictions' made on this hypothesis has proven false so far.

We can play follow the money from all sides of the political spectrum...it's nothing new and will continue on as far as people existing on this planet.

I can agree with this. As a person who does believe almost 8 billion of us can change things on this planet, climate is very complex and is in constant change. I personally hate the gloom and doom predictions because if they don't come true, then what? This is one of the messages I share with my students.

All I gotta say is this; Look at the Wooly Mammoth, most of them they found that died, had (Tropical food) either in their mouths or stomach. o_O Now, one theory is a Polar flip! And, if that happens, most of us will not survive it.
I had a geologist friend in the USCG who studied Ice cores and was on both Ice Breakers in the USCG. They have core samples that went back 100,000 years. He said; " Our earth has heated and cooled at least 5 times in this period alone! He is a Scientist with a PHD who said this. He is also the one who will not discuss funding because certain private companies will Loose BIG $$$$$$$$$$$.

I'm all for clean water, air and land (who isn't)... on the entire planet. Problem is we can only do what we can do, here in the US. We've been reducing emissions for many years. Other countries will always do what they can or want to do. Once again, China leads the way in carbon emissions...
... this Google search was worth noting: China's emission levels exceed those of all developed countries combined.

"The Rhodium Group released an analysis today showing that China, the world's largest emitter, saw its 2019 emission levels exceed those of all developed countries combined to reach 14 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent. That's about 27% of the global total."

Good thing we can always count on China to do the right thing... :picard:

Remember this? I do, real well! I'm 100% with you on this. Problem is, China and various other Countries don't care! Google/youtube Ship Breaking and see what is going into waters...

I imagine in your profession you might feel like a liberal at an NRA convention, or a conservative who accidentally wandered into a newsroom

Not sure where you got your information from but last time I checked light travels at 186,000 mps.

I say it but I figure anything over 150,000 mps is ridiculous fast

Yeah, We as a human species will never see speeds of that nature. At least NOT in a gravity situation, the body would be turned into liquid.

I didn't hear any facts about whether climate change is man made.

I heard a politically charged rant by a grouchy old white man aimed at the younger generation designed to be a slap in their face for taking a stand about a subject that is very important to them...brilliant what a great message to send! Young people aren't even his intended audience. That piece was designed for other grouchy old white men to say "ye haw" to as they sit around wasting their time sitting on their front porch drinking bourbon and smoking cigars talking about "those damm kids today"...what a joke!

Well Dave, I'll like your post because it's a different thought! But, he's not only 100% right, he doesn't need facts! 4.5 BILLION years of earths existence should be enough! Everything from meteor hits to Dark Summers and solar flares should satisfy the na-sayers! I have YET to see a rise in sea levels and I live 9 BLOCKS from the water front. I worked in the USCG and worked with scientists who call it all BULLS#!T, BUT won't get funding if they open their mouths! You can believe what you want and that's your prerogative, is the earth warming, (Yes)! Yes it is, but man's existence ALONE by populating the world would not create the harm as "SOME" say it's doing. Maybe go did for REAL facts instead of following a news media or someone who's been "BOUGHT OFF" by people. I'll simply ask you this as I've stated in the past, (According to some scientists), We were going to have CATASTROPHIC rise in sea levels by as early as 2013! Ah, that's long past Dave...
We were all going to FREEZE to death in the 1970's.... Yeah, that didn't happen also. I live very close to a harbor that hasn't risen .0065 inches in 50 years. Hmmmmmmmm...... BUT now, we're all supposed to go and run out and buy an electric car! Wait? Where does that ELECTRICITY come form? Coal maybe, Nuclear, fossil fuels? Who know's? But again we have an 18 year old girl now telling us how stupid and terrible we all are! I wonder where she got her PHD from?
You have KIDS telling us, people who have studied climate AND HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION, Backed with facts that WE are killing the planet, but in essence he was providing a point of the hypocrisy of their actions! I think that's plenty fair!

Whatever Dave. I have no desire to get into a facts debate with you, I have some fresh paint I need to watch dry. Just pointing out that the original post contained no facts and was nothing more than a political rant...but that's OK as long as the politics aligns with that of the FHC moderating...status quo I guess...ho hum.

    Have a nice day!

Dave, Politics have NOTHING to do with truth! I didn't make this political, it was only a View point. Nobody injected or spoke politics here except you! Facts are facts. Do we really need an 18 year old telling thousands of scientists they're all stupid? Nope. I'm sorry it rubs you the wrong way, but it's facts!!! If you can't handle facts then you live in a fantasy world.

Like I said, I'm not getting into a "facts" debate with you. If you think a discussion about climate change is apolitical then you're delusional or been living under a rock.
