So having the GF's grandkids here I decided to make them suffer cranking the handle like most of us did in the old days. Ours has an electric motor so most of the work will go on with it(against my better judgment ) its somewhat short attention span theater here .....I guess we were all kids at one point.
Pics will follow, just going 2cps whole milk 2cps heavy cream, 3/4cp sugar, 2tsp vanilla, pinch of salt on this batch. The kidos can get creative in their toppings that way, hard to please three 9-13yo's

I remember making ice cream as a kid and making it with my wife about 8 years ago. One summer we decided to buy a cuisinart ice cream maker and a recipe book. I got so FAT eating so much ice cream. it was a good summer.

I have never made ice cream with an ice cream maker - just freezing it in pans and keep mixing it. Doesn't taste quite as good as it does coming out of the ice cream maker.

Wish I could eat ice cream. It's good but my body completely rejects it because of all the dairy.

Went and looked at the recipes (I know I shouldn't have) especially when I found the section that explained how to make ice cream without a maker. Good thing I don't gain weight reading about them.

Sorry didn't get back sooner whole bunch of swimming, canoeing and yard games. No finished product it came out awesome, the motor operator has a thermal overload to cut out when the consistency/resistance to paddle has reached optimal creaminess. I even tried cranking it by hand at the end and the manual crank gears were slipping. The towel helps keep the top ice insulated a bit.

And for the dairy impaired there are a host of sorbet recipes in the book if needed.
Reality is I got it for her for Christmas after she mentioned it one summer(keep a mental bank of things I normally won't buy) and surprise her once a year - a tip for the other fellas and maybe the ladies;)
