I'm in that 3.5 ballpark as well. We really slowed down the last month-and-a-half or so. Our current 1-cord stack has lasted almost 2 months. Now, with many warm days, we do a shot of the oil furnace instead of the wood stove. We'll have a few more overnights, I'm sure, but we won't burn too much more if the weather stays as current. Puts us in good standing for next year, particularly given what's sitting in the back yard awaiting the Fiskars!
I too am at the usual of about 3+ cord so far. I thought my "allotted stacks" for 20-21 season was going to be close or short at the rate I was burning, (hate to get into next seasons stacks) but this nice warm weather has really slowed down consumption, so will probably have some left over really. But....like others said, still a ways to go and April was cold last year.
We went about 3.5 to 4. We did go into next years stash of about a face cord as we coming up short. I am running oil furnace more than normal.
Still burning at least once a day, but no fire today. I was getting up with my wife at 4:30 to get the fire going. Since last week she just turns the furnace on in the morning if needed. We did burn more oil than last year ( less than a 1/4 tank), much of that was during the real cold spell. I still hate hearing the furnace run. Estimate we have gone through about a 4.25 cords so far. This includes shoulder wood, chunks, etc... Planned on 5 -6, so not a huge difference, but a difference none the less. Probably burn here and there until mid-end of April. Especially during those rainy spring days.
I think I will be a little under 3 cords by the time I quite burning. My fire is out right now, but debating on whether to build one before bed time. Lately, I have been building a fire about 7-8 in the evening and topping it off a couple of hours later, and letting it go out in the morning.
So I did some measuring & calculating tonight... I’ve gone through 2.9 cords so far this year, granted, I’ll still burn to sometime in May but from now on it’s not too much. On average I burn 4 cord a year, I expect it will be a bit less this year when all done.
I didn't keep records this season, but it's normally about 5-6 cords. I shut down the boiler a few weeks ago and this is perfect temps for the mini splits to take over for the house. The shop is fine staying in the 50's on it's own without heating. I figure keeping close track of my wood use anymore is similar to that saying "if you have to ask, you can't afford it''. I just keep on cutting and stacking until the weather temporarily shuts me down in the summer heat and right now. There is still frost in the ground and the mud is under standing water puddles.
True statement and I won't be hauling many more loads in, don't cut in the heat unless it's for very good reason.
I will probably keep cutting, but I need to do some splitting and hauling. I probably have at least a couple of cords cut into rounds, laying all over the farm. I hauled in a face cord of Osage Orange and stacked it yesterday or maybe it was the day before, I can't remember for sure. And I still have a bunch more downed trees to cut up.
Cant do any firewood work anymore 'For now' but only at 3 quarters in the carport from last years burn.
I'm still burning fires, especially at night, and if it's raining, but we're in full shoulder season now. I've used less wood this year, but we're still figuring what is the new normal after all the house upgrades ( windows, insulation, roof siding and a garage door over the last 2 years). So while we used to go through 4.5 cords or so before the upgrades, we have gone though less this year. I'm estimating 3.5-3.75 cords this year and I'll have some to put back into the stacks for future use, the way it's going. Also this was the last year to not pull from a dedicated wood shed bay. Going forward, I will know that each bay is 5 cords and wood is only pulled from that bay for that year. So any remaining wood from that winter's allotment will be subtracted from that 5 cords, during actual usage. I'm sure I'll still burn fuglies and chunks in the stove though, so there's going to be a little fudge factor, but I'll try to estimate as best as I can.
