My arborist buddy asked me if I wanted a load of cherry, I said sure. He dumped it in the driveway at the beach house. It’s the time of year when I head down there regularly so I will bring home a truckload the next few times. I am going to ask him for some more ash. Then we can joke about Cherry Ash. Some nice wood there Thom. Maybe a fire on the beach? Will you keep some there for that purpose?

We have the occasional fire on the beach, there are several wood burners in the neighborhood at the beach.

I’ve split about half a cord of this wood by hand, tough stuff. I think it is choke cherry not black cherry. The sap wood is very stringy. [IMG]

Bet it smelled great! Ive had cherry tough and easy to split.
Cherry can get tough to hand split if the ends start to check as do most other woods. Have you tried the "wet end" trick Thom? Store rounds with one end touching the ground so it stays damp. Split from the wet end and much easier.

You are right Brad, the ends are checked. I will try stacking them with one end on the ground as you say.
