I was at Rual King and they had a 550xp looked new but was on the AS IS table for 475, didn't say what was wrong with it but seemed to have compression. Is it a deal or pass?

Is it the newer Mark II version? I wonder why they are calling it "as is?" Customer return? Whatever the case, it seems to be priced too high even without the "as is" disclaimer.

As is is tough. How good are you at working on your own stuff and do you have a friend or very good dealer with the software to plug in to the newer tech? I'd say that's pretty high if there's an issue with it.

Even so, that price is too high.

Yes, some of the Husky's have AutoTune (computer controlled carb). The first gen of the 550 had it. The Mark II doesn't appear to have it or at least it's not mention in the specs on their website...

5 series Husky's have autotune. You'll need to plug in to diag fuel delivery issues.

I’d pass. I’ve seen new with warranty shipped for $460

From what I’ve seen on the web, the 1st gen 550 has a design flaw where too much heat is transferred from cylinder to carb causing hot starting issues. There is not a heat shield, or an inadequate shield between cylinder and carb.

At that price I agree with the others I’d leave it on the shelf.

As is might mean it has the infamous off idle bog. Can be solved with a new AT-12 carb as long as it’s in the right series with the coil. That’s $120 DIY fix if that’s the case.
