As miserable as it is, you gotta admit there is some satisfaction In teaching those rounds a lesson with the hydraulics

 

Satisfaction, nope. Frustration and misery, yep. It made me want to not try the next piece, which I eventually did. Gave away 90% of it.

 

I use a 94cc splitter for green Elm from now on

 

Can’t blame you! Hard to make a stack look neat with that stuff. Guess you’ll just have to cut more wood

That's the best way to split Elm.

 

There is alot of elm around where I live, I'm not sure what sub-species it is. Most of it is not horrible to work with if it's been dead for awhile. Green it's the same nightmare that many of the above posts are talking about. I don't care to much for burning it, because it leaves alot of ash.

 

Sure is a lot of hate for elm on here...lol.
I don't mind it at all, splitting with hydraulics. Seems to dry fairly fast and lasts pretty good in the furnace.
