Ha I never thought of that, but actually I could care less about football!! It’s a very rare occasion that I watch a husker game, & then its because I’m “stuck” someplace where everyone else is watching it.

I just know good chainsaws .:D

Got back to the locust scrounge today and CSS a truck and 1/2 load. The pile is about 1/2 load or so I’ll pick it up hopefully tomorrow. The splits are bigger than the look, I just make large splits on sight for easier handling and stacking. Supposed to snow 3-6” so it might be a mess.
looked like some “competition” stoped by, but they only took small stuff and there’s plenty to share.

The land owner stoped by, sounds like they might stack up the saw logs for easier access and he has another shelter belt being removed in the spring! I’ll be hoarding here for awhile!!

As others have stated that looks like Thornless Honey Locust, give it 3 years & expect some boring beatles to work it over in the first year. The HL that I had uncovered didn’t have near the damage that they covered stack had.

You will love that HL when it gets dried down.

Was in the mid 20’s and NO WIND when I was CSS that last load. Pretty good for wood processing. I always wear multiple layers in that kind of weather and end up with just a long sleeve shirt by the end. We’ve had a very mild winter so far

I should be back Friday for more loads!

I dont mind cutting in the cold, even some snow, but the wind chill can be tough. From the looks of things thats an open area and the wind chill must be rather fierce when its blowing. :shiver:
Hoard on and work safe my friend!

Load from Saturday. 5th load out so far. More snow made it a little more work and some rounds were buried (not in pics) so I didn’t pull them out.

Not sure what the big rounds in the second pic are, but guessing buy how hard they were to split, or I should say not split it must be Elm. I even put 2 noodles in one round and it wouldn’t budge with the IsoCore! Guess I’ll have to bring the 660 next time and noodle them all!

Another nice load youve got there. The splits are honey locust. Cant tell what the big rounds are.
What saw(s) did you run today? Is the 660 your go to saw for noodling?

Just the 460 today. Brought the echo top Handle to cut away brush, but didn’t need it. Top handles are sure handy for brush, used it last time for a couple tanks.

I’ll get a couple pics of the other rounds next time. It’s got to be Elm tough, I can’t imagine anything else being so hard to split and it’s nice straight grain!

Yes my 660 is my go to for noodling. Way faster and less stress for the saw.

Looks some nice hoarding you have going on there. Hard to tell what the big rounds are, can you get a closer pic?

I love my little 194T for limbing/smalls. I noticed you went "against the grain" with an Echo top handle.

Yah, J. Dirt Hooked me up with it! I was looking for a top Handle to do some bucket work on a couple of my trees, ended up not needing it for that job. Sure is handy though! It’s got a muffler mid so it cuts way above its class. No problem with 14” buried in that Locust!

I remember splitting in one below zero weather and ended up taking off layers down to my sweat shirt.Only thing don't stop splitting or you'll freeze up quick.

Looks like thornless honeylocust. I love the smell of it almost sugary sweet. Honeylocust with thorns is one angry tree! We’ve got some around us I even had a branch come down and put a 2” thorn through my knuckle joint once. Still have some scar tissue there.

That’s some nasty stuff! I’m glad I’ve never even seen a tree like that!

That’s a awesome score, I love to burn black locust. I found it to season quicker than oak and btu value makes it a winner.
