Wood ID help

Any insight on this one guys? I'm guessing a type of hickory but I dont know! Its heavy though. The guy at the scrounge site said boxelder and I know that ain't it!!!

Looks like maple to me.

 

Looks like the top wood or limbs of our hickories. I don't do much with "which hickory" anymore.

 

Looks identical to our Shagbark Hickory we have in Iowa. Main trunk and bigger limbs will be shaggy but the smaller stuff is smooth just like that.
The light color also says Hickory.

 

My thoughts too, had the slight stringiness of shagbark on that split, and its kinda that distinct grey color.

 

How about this stuff? I'm guessing an oak species but not sure because I never get oak. Heavy and splits very easily.

Hickory it is. Looks like limb wood that hasnt gotten the characteristic bark yet as stated already. Second pic looks like ash woody5506 Great scrounge!

Thanks, must be a different type of ash than what I normally get around here but the ad did say ash and black locust! It failed to mention the hickory and beech as well. Overall it was a great scrounge

 

First log looks just like the big leaf maple we have around here.

 

Alright last one I swear....my tree guy said this was beech as did a wood worker friend of mine but these rounds split open with ease and almost seemed more like maple. Never split any beech myself but I always heard it was tough and stringy. Thoughts?

 

It looks like beech, but i have seen maple with smooth bark like that too.

 

Looks like beech from here. Some beech will split like a breeze, some like a son of a beech!

 

Beech, wish I could get my hands on some.

 

Looking closer at the cross section of bark on the split i say beech. Excellent firewood. Ill take it over oak any day. Ive had beech split like cake and ive had it tough.

 

First pics look like a baby hickory tree, second I would say Ash, last looks like nice straight beech.

Thanks fellas! All this wood is from a site on the water they are clearing to build a cottage. It's down a rickety narrow old cottage road and the land owners and tree guys both told me to please take anything I can.

These beaches were kinda buried in a hard to access spot but I think I'm gonna go back and hack away at them. They are huge and perfectly straight, they look like massive telephone poles laying on the ground.

 

Those will make some nice primo splits. Go get em. We want pics too!
