At my request huskihl found an MS461 to port a few months ago. It showed up a few weeks ago when I was in the middle of some busy projects. A few days ago my neighbor asked if it had shown up yet; I told him about the saw build a few months ago.

The weather cleared so I put the 32” Tsumura Lightweight bar and 72LPX chain on and headed to his place. Fueled and oiled it up, and went to noodle a 18” long ash round. He has given me at least 12 cords of ash, the EAB beetle has killed hundreds of trees on his place. He stopped me as I got ready and mentioned him having a bunch of large ash stumps he could use stumped down so he can grind them out. His only saw is a 40cc Echo. I figured since I got a Super Jolly grinder recently, why not. I’ll just sharpen the chain if the stumps dull the cutters.

Fired the saw and let it warm up after cleaning the bark up from around the base of the first stump. Lined up and let her eat. And eat she did, nearly buried the whole 32” bar, yet the saw never hesitated or hinted at bogging! Both my neighbor and I were amazed at how fast the saw ate up that stump cut! Then I moved to another stump about 24” or so, and the saw seemed to pull through the cut on its own, effortless. The saw is far beyond what I hoped and expected, and is exactly what I needed for the big hardwoods I encounter. Thanks Kevin!

Awesome saw. Thanks for the vid. If you convert to the high-output oiler, you've got plenty of power to run a lot longer bar and chain when/if you need it. I've run 36" w/ my ported 461.

Kevin took care of the oiler while the saw was with him. I run a 32" bar, and it seems to oil it just fine the way it is right now. I might up the oiler just a tad, but I will wait a while longer to see what it really needs.

If you want some more fun, throw a 20" bar with an 8 or 9 pin on it.

Yep, for sure. My XS 036 Pro with a 20" & 8 pin rim is a screaming monster. It'll out cut my very healthy rebuilt stock 046.

That’s a bit scary, but a good idea. I’ll try it eventually, Kevin sent an appropriate sprocket for it I believe.

You guys think more power could be considered a safety feature??

My thought process is that if you have a boring underpowered saw you could become complacent and possibly careless leading to bad things
Now if you got one that basically scares the crap out of you after using it you respect it more therefore being more safe

But i could be way out in left field

I run a Sausage finner ported MS440 with a 20" and an 8 pin sprocket and a 394xp muff modded and a base gasket deleted with a 24" and an 8 pin for most of the bigger wood I deal with. The ported 026 get used in the smaller wood with a 16" and a 7 pin 3/8 chain or a .325 and an 8 pin. Slow saws suck.

Here’s the reader's digest version of fast scary saw VS slow boring saw :
“ The faster the saw , The less time you have to get hurt “ . :dex:

Or, if you're going to the hospital for stitches anyways, make it worth the trip!!
