My employer owns quite a bit of acreage and some of it is woods...being maintenance I have to clean up down trees, and drop ones that are becoming problem trees. Plus there is ~5 acre woods that I can cut from too...there is so much eab ash down in there right now I can't get it all! :hair:
This is one that I cleaned up and hauled home last week after a wind storm

I work on a farm, so any time we clean up fence lines or I see some dead trees in a tree line i can cut and take them. Sometimes I even get to cut wood and load it up and get paid for it.

I have an endless amount of pallets from my employment. Also a bonus when people know you have a saw problem and use wood to heat your home.

I work in construction. I've had a few jobs that have taken down trees. one time I got the chance to take the logs home. Just once tho.

Also working construction I am usually laid off in the winter so I have plenty of time to gather/process firewood.

When trees fall in my area, the folks who clear them up just toss them to the side, and dont bother to toss it far, or cut enough away. The company doesn't own saws or let the line workers run them (liability reasons). So if something falls or needs cleaned up, I'm usually the one. Equipment stays in my truck, so its buck-n-load.

Same with others, pallets come home with me outta the scrap pile. We get enough odd sizes, that I have a nice collection of wood for outdoor projects.

The compost bin (pic) was all scrap and scrounge. 'Cept the dog. Just took a load of hay yesterday from a hay job...hay was moldy, but will run our compost bin for the winter.

Got another work related score today. Sometime this summer I delivered a load of concrete out to a ranch. While they were finishing getting ready I was gawking around. Noticed quite a few standing dead elms in the shelter belts. Ran into the rancher today at the bank and got the go ahead.
I need a 2 week vacation to get all the scores gathered up that I’ve got a line on:hair:

Sounds fun, we can put up wood on shares! I’ll send you home with some standing dead elm. And I’ll bring back some black locust, oak, & hickory.... and any other species you got that I’ve never seen

Ive had a few instances with the last company where I was getting paid while out scrounging. Salary positions sometimes do have a benefit.

Work affords me a decent paycheck to buy some nice equipment. I work in a remote area that is to far away for other scroungers to get at. I am so looking forward to retirement.
