My old boss used to use 2-8” pipe wrench’s, one on each end of the “bullet” and break it in half. Learned that from an old Con Edison guy.
After a while he scored a key from his friend. The wire is for locating the gas line.

I have a little less than a cord left. Reclaimed a lot of yard back. Grass already filling in where my skids were 63C51FEC-26B0-4E7F-9350-3C6B54CACE6C.jpeg

So far it's costing me about $1.00 a day to heat to 68F. We'll see what January and February bring. My furnace is a Lennox EL296. 96%'er

We have been keeping ours to 68-69, but has not been on consistently due to weather changes to get a solid cost estimate. I went the cheaper furnace route and got the Goodman 96% 120,000 btu

Yeah, I'm guesstimating. My 1st gas bill was $18.00 for October. Haven't seen November's yet. My furnace is 90K btu. Runs on low fire all the time. It's a bit oversized actually. I should have asked for the 70K. House is 2400 sf. I was looking forward towards a real cold spell, lol

We got gas last winter. Dear wife and I dismantled the old oil burner (musta been 40 years old) and hauled it out. Instead of lowering the install charge, they gave us a substantial unit upgrade (2 stage burner, multi speed blower).

Comtractor did everything else incl. permit and testing. Now, i would never suggest just taking on a project like gas piping without some experience. Nor installing an appliance without red tape, if there was any. But, if you are somewhat handy, have time to listen to a few hours of you tube, installing piping off their work, to another appliance is not difficult. Building codes arent too difficult, you could even have a few contractors come in for estimates: take careful notes when they visit.

It is also handy to have a few extra fittings, in case ya have to remove or fubar one.

The aforementioned pressure test is.good, as is a gas detector, mounted properly.

Whome ever did our hook up, decided useuse cssp as there were a lot of jogs and bends (woulda been a dozen fittings and more places for leak potential). A steel pipe threader is a couple hundred, so fabricating is fun, and easy to master..
