I’ve hiked past this tree for years. Pretty much plumb at the bottom but then took a hard right and grew not quite parallel to the ground but got enough so it caught my attention almost every time I passed. Figured it would come up by the root ball some day. I guess it snapped instead.
Back cut was very close to the hinge and no movement, so I put the saw down and gave it a push. Fought the laurel to get some elbow room. Cut to length and back at the house ready to split.
Well, that explains the title. I really thought it was a typo. At least it can be on the back burner. It certainly takes longer to rot that far up in the air.
Yup! I have another one back there on a huge oak where half the forked canopy snapped and twisted and was heading for the ground. And but for one 5” white pine branch, it probably would have made it there. I’ve tried to gets pics to show it, but none tell the story. I guess the one today and the one above came down during the storm
