We have what can only be called a wind today. Right now, around 17mph but forecasted up to 40mph later on.
They're forecasting possible wind gust over 50 mph today, if we get that, I'm sure I'll have some trail clearing to do.
I like looking at this wind map. earth :: a global map of wind, weather, and ocean conditions 26mph in my area now.
We just had our first wind gust, nothing that bad but it was the first one I noticed. It is getting darker out for this time of day. The old splitter with the new Honda engine went in the garage, my luck and the garage will take a hit from a tree and the area where it was will be fine. I just noticed that 150 people are without power just south of us by about two miles.
We were just issued a severe thunderstorm warning telling us to seek shelter, it must be from this storm south of us. Yes we did even though we had some strong winds, the winds are still pretty good at times today so I'll leave checking the property for another day.
I took the RTV out with the saws and cut up a bunch of downed pine branches so they would fit in the utility trailer, I took two loads to the wood dump. I didn't get any pictures because that area had a ton of red squirrel action so since I needed the tractor with the forks, I parked the RTV back in the garage and left the camera in it. I moved a bunch of the junk pine rounds out of the area I've been working too split, I didn't split them today because over by the fireplace is loaded with junk pine ready to burn once we get enough rain. I have a dead pine leaning into another pine, I'm not sure if I'll try pulling it out and down or cut it.
I was thinking the same last night when thinking about it but first will give the little tank (the RTV) a shot at the belt!
Just a thought, since I have had to do the same with lodged trees. If you can, hook a chain to your bucket on the loader, wrap around the butt of the tree, keep tree under the bucket. You can lift the tree with the tractor and control it a lot better.
I'm not sure if I'll get it this year but I'll remember the info, thanks. I might do an open face cut on the side I'm pulling from with a small cut coming in on the backside, when I pull, it should snap right off. We'll see how decayed it is before I do anything.
We received 4-5 inches of snow later last night until this morning so it was time I put the plow on the 4540, I plowed our driveway along with the neighbors driveway.
We received 4 inches of snow so we cleared most of the driveway with the RTV - X1100c but I did the trails and some of the driveway with the 4540. Pictures 1368 & 69 are two new areas I cleaned up over the summer/fall so both areas are new to me when I'm plowing with the tractor. I used the 4540 when I cleared the neighbors driveway. Doing the trails with the 4540 is much easier than with the RTV.
We do it every year, he has a heart problem so we've always helped out. If for some reason we'll be going someplace, I'll call him and let him know. He has let me make some walking trails for the wife on part of his property so she doesn't have to walk on the road.
