I finally got to blocking up Mt. Elmore that was dropped off a weeks ago. Typical tree service stuff, full size logs, crotches included. I wasn't going to mess with trying to split them, so I saved them all to do some chainsaw carving. I ripped the biggest crotch in half, and carved a heart. Not sure how I will finish it, most likely our names in it, and a couple coats of poly. 20201114_170258.jpg 20201114_170252.jpg

Hey Pricey, is that just the half of the crotch log or did you slice a board out of it? Mine are just halved.

Ripped the crotch log in half, still about 10 inches thick.

Funny you post this. I was just thinking of stuff to do with weird but interesting pieces like that.

there are a bunch of youtube vids on power carving using an angle grinder and special carving attachments. I think you can get by with one for about a hundred bucks (or less) and some sanding wheels and make a bowl of some sort.

I have a pile of ash crotches about 20 to 30 inch diameter that I have been wanting to carve bowls out of. Maybe I can get them done for some unique Christmas gifts. I want to set up a carving shack, with a pop up canopy frame and a tarp. Those projects really make a mess, not about to do it in my garage.
