Milled 4 logs today. 2 white oak and 2 highly valuable walnut. These where from a barn built in 1760. They are going to be used to build a farm table with a bread board ends. They thought all 4 were oak. Now they are going to build the base out of the highly valuable walnut and the top out of the white oak. They were at 6-8 percent moisture and very dusty while milling.
Where are the pics of the cut boards. Sounds like a great project that we need to see the updates on.
Customer was loading them up as fast as we were cutting them, sorry that's all I have. Maybe I can get a picture of the table when there done.
I have milled some old barn beams they were heart pine and chestnut that was one dusty job it was slow going the chestnut was rock hard JB
Did you leave enough wood on the top and bottom cuts to be a workable "hand hewn" veneer? It would be cool to have some highly valuable hewn boards. Looks like it was a fun project!
No, just skimmed it on the top and bottom. Didn't have too much meat to work with. They are going to have to be careful with there cuts to get enough lumber for there project.
