My poor beagle Sabastian was not right for past couple weeks. My wife called me at work on Monday this week and said 'Bastian was not getting up and sleeping . He got up with a little prodding and ate and went out. I checked him when I got home and he was ok. No temp and was active again glad to see me.
Tuesday morning he refused to get up. I had to bring his food over to him to get him up. He ate went out. I left for work. He slept most of the day and seemed weak. He got worse wed eve/ night I called to make appoint earlier wed but the vet was backed up. I rushed him to emergency clinic Thurs morning after his breathing was labored and he was very hot. Fever of over 107.
Well, turns out his x-rays showed a large mass in his chest where his thymus is. His bloodwork was really out of whack and had extremely high lymphocyte count and calcium was high. The docs wanted to run more tests and kept him overnight and called in a specialist to verify the unthinkable..the oncologist called and explained he was diagnosed with stage 4 got damm aggressive tcell lymphoma. After speaking w the vets again We went w the kids had a consult at the clinic and after learning the tumor was inoperable and he also showed a very massive cancer "load" that he was just too weak and in pain to do chemo prednisone and radiation to shrink the tumor and it may kill him if we did that. The oncologist did not want to put him thru that. Inside I want ed to do anything I could to save him. But
We decided it was best to just let him rest.
He was MY baby. I love that dog and this chit is just too damm much.
We just lost our cat a month ago. My wife and kids are besides themselves. But I kept everyone together and faced his situation head on and knew it was best for him we don't want him to suffer. It happened so quick.
We recall little changes he showed almost wo noticing like he slept more and every once in a while he would regurgitate a bit of water if he drank too much. We just didn't put 2 n 2 together.
    My poor pup Bastian.

Sorry for the long story guys just such a crazy time and year to say the least.

My wife n I are having his ashes prepared for us to bring home and my son and I will put together a memorial in the garden for him next to missy.

    RIP BASTIAN...
    love u bud

Sorry for your loss. It is difficult to let them go when it is their time. And especially so when you've already gone thru that in such a short time.

Sorry for your loss. I can empathize with you as I lost my older shepherd to lymphoma this summer. He would have turned 10 this October however the cancer ate him away in just a few months. Losing a best friend and companion is definitely tough and the best thing to do is think of the good times you and your family had with him.

So sad to lose a pet like that. Sorry.

We all have been through this, some a number of times. :handshake: I will still have dreams about my dog from the 70's. And they are good dreams!

I am so sorry Oakman69 . It seems when we take on the responsibility of having a pet live with us, we may also eventually be faced with the weight of making the decision to let them pass on. You gave him a happy life then made the right choice for him in the end. I know that doesn't make it any easier. Only time will help that. I hope the pain will ease quickly and only the happy memories remain.
