Im moving some logs, mainly to shore up a hillside trail I have, ive got one that fell, and shredded the stump, I cut it off where it bent the stump over, but to get it out of the woods i gotta rotate it almost 90 degrees, which is tricky, being thats its in a tight spot (Its about a 30ft long log) im gonna go out later (Hopefully) with a come along and try to turn it so I can drag it out, any idea's on how to help make this easier? Its on a steep hill, with LOTS of underbrush and thorns, gonna maybe have to get rid of some stumps before moving it. Any thoughts on a "More power puller"? I want to get the 3T with 35ft of amsteel blue, but $330 is a lot for a 14yo that has no job lol, but I think it might be worth it.
Cut it into shorter lengths. Then use the comealong and haul them up on the path of least resistance.
I'm trying to envision what you are trying to do. Are the logs acting as a retaining wall on the low side of the trail?
tbh I dont know, but its been laying there for 4 years without getting much rot at all, so it should be fine
Pulleys are your friend. It is simply amazing how much more you can move by using even one pulley. Think snatch block.
I agree with Mike. Cut them shorter. At least short enough that you can maneuver them around. May have to put in some vertical stakes at the joints, but it will work. How high are you trying to build it up, just one logs diameter?
it is amazing how much they can do, but i only have a 4-1 set, and one lone pulley with a dynema sling (Loops on either end with the block on one end, so i can wrap it around logs) and i tried to pull this log with that, but its WAY to heavy, and its up hill, ill just have to save up i guess
and i cant really put in stakes, 1: I dont have any, 2: This clay on my property is just about as hard as concrete, so driving stuff into it is a challenge
Yes they are! A couple years ago I bought a self-releasing snatch block it is invaluable with the winch.
Yes as the cable passes thru it the choker hits a lever and releases the cable. It wasn't cheap but it works very well for doing what your are trying to do.
