Is this rust level of concern?

Oh really been slacking lately. Getting around to examining the stove prior to start of the season and when I opened the door saw a fair amount of rust. I keep the door closed but not sealed during the off season as to not compress the seal for that much time.

Should I wire wheel and repaint this? Any concern with operating it this year with that level of rust? IMG_20201016_145755.jpg

Pretty sure my NC30 is 8 years old at this point. Thanks for any advice or tips.

Sounds like your 30 is treating you well. Most of that should be hardly noticeable while operating. Maybe rub off any heavy rust with some scotchbrite. Vac up the residue perhaps. Can't imagine any of that is a real issue with function. I'd be more concerned about the burn tube condition/rust etc. Maybe a few 30 owners will chime in.

A little steel wool and she'll be good as new.

Won’t hurt anything to run it based on that photo. Would be easy to fix that cosmetic issue though.

Glad to hear! I already wire wheeled it and there is minor pitting but nothing to serious. Probably going to run it tonight with the low of 43 degrees.

Would stove black work work better there than paint ?
I've only used it on cast iron.

I'd probably just grab a spray can of hi-temp paint, because of the last three sentences. The part of the NC-30 in the pic is not cast iron, right? I'm thinking the only thing that is cast iron on the 30 is the door.

"The stove black polish withstands high heat, and leaves the cast iron stove with a dull sheen that's more attractive and traditional than paint. Note: This product works best on unpainted cast iron. May work on painted steel or iron stoves. Not recommended on unpainted steel."

But, capetownkg I feel that the rust is of no concern. Just knock it down as others have already mentioned. Good luck!

Rust I can deal with, warpage now that can be a problem. The stove black polish works great, smells a little at first but makes the stove look like new at least for a few weeks

A bag or two of desiccant (like the basement types) will help with that in the off season.
