I found these short verses in "The Young Machinist's Practical Guide" Published in 1912 by the Morse Twist Drill Company in New Bedford Mass. It was written by Charles Mackay:

    TUBAL CAIN

Old Tubal Cain was a man of might in the days when Earth was young. By the fierce red light of his furnace bright the strokes of his hammer rung. And he lifted high his brawney hand on the iron glowing clear, till the sparks rushed out in scarlet shower as he fashioned the sword and spear.

    And he sang:
Hurra for my handiwork, hurra for the spear and sword and hurra for the hand that shall wield them well for he shall be king and lord.

To Tubal Cain came many a one, as he wrought by his roaring fire, and each one prayed for a strong steel blade as the crown of his desire. And he made them weapons sharp and strong till they shouted out with glee, and brought him gifts of pearl and gold and spoils of the forest free.

    And they sang:
"Hurra for Tubal Cain who has given us strength anew. Hurra for the smith, hurra for the fire and hurra for the metal true.

Looks like you've been digging in the old books Tim. That sometimes can really be nice as you can find much wisdom in them.

That word has another meaning as well! In a very bonding way and sence of brotherhood to a specific community.

    Weldr Dave,
Interesting! I did not know about the connection with the Masonic Order. The words that I published were from the property of my mothers brother who was a machinist at a brass factory in Detroit. I still have his old micrometer, calipers and a few other tools of his from the trade. What I did not know was that after asking family members I found out that both he, his brother and my Mothers father were all Masons. Thanks to your comments, I think that his affiliation with the Masons was the reason that he kept the old tattered book with his tools. Thank you, stay well and be safe.

Pictures of the guide. Hard to see and read. My post was not very accurate as punctuation is blurred. I have another treasure to share later on. 20200925_160648.jpg 20200925_160657.jpg

Don't ever let that book slip from your hands... There is much more to that book than you know!

“Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭4:22‬ ‭ESV‬‬
I came across this in my reading yesterday morning. It’s funny how things all tie together sometimes.

    J bird,
Thanks for the information. I really did not expect to get any replys from my post. Just wanted to share the old book with those on FHC. Now thanks to you and WeldrDave, I understand the history as to why the company chose to add the text to the company publication.
The little handbook is worn and tattered. One can only imagine its past.
    Be well and stay safe.
