This is the best thing I've ever read about firewood!! I totally agree as well. I have a deal with my neighbor - he comes over to help me split and stack and then he gets to take away as much wood as he wants. I also will help someone css just for fun. That's the best part.
Maybe for another thread: Why wood heating is not part of the so called "renewable" solutions ? Class? Too much physical effort ? Pollution myth ? Variability of the heat for many using 100% wood heat ? Imagined "clear cutting" hysteria ? What ?
Wood is counted as renewable. And is a large percent of the Mega Watts. Usually next to trash. That’s power anyway. Current fuel mix in New England 8% is renewable Of that 8%, 32% is wood and 40% is trash
The perception, the marketing, the media. Yes, it is by data "renewable along with "trash". Bu t--not the vast pedling of solar and wind , or subsidies. Here in Maine, EPA wood stoves are NOT in the Efficiency Maine rebates. And, Maine has more wood heat homes than Vermont, also high in the U.S.
Total yes as % of population... NO Heated Up!: Mapping wood heating and wood smoke in the United States
Im in the opposite camp as I don’t burn any, but only sell right now. (Except some campfire wood) my prices vary depending on what time of year, how green and who it is. I have guys that buy 3 cords of hardwood at a time, not even asking the price, and some that only do 1/4 cord as thats what they can afford. I have sold for about 8 years, so a lot of customers are older and no matter how much I lower the price, they pay me more. I make it good practice to avoid the crazy ones, and focus on the good folks. Has worked excellent and gave away some wood last year, couldn’t be happier. I have a lot of old guys who realize how much work it is. I’m young and enjoy it. Not as profitable as a business, but it pays my saws, truck and trailer. Keeps me less fat.
