I love smoking with alder, distinct but very mild smoke flavor, none around here that I know of.

Head over to the Ye Olde Swag Shoppe here on FHC, they got decals small to large. That’s the biggest one. I do hope they get some more visual colors too but what they got today works pretty loud. I’ve got comments, questions and looks often, it’s definitely a sense of pride to let people know about this sweet group!

Sweet pick ups! I agree on the clean up and I do my best to get all the wood that those post in the truck or trailer. Often I will ask if they want help in cleaning and they usually tell me don’t worry about it and that they are happy I’m just picking up the wood. That offering can go a long ways and some keep my contact info for later.

Ok, since I’m a newbie, where do you find Ye Olde Swag Shoppee? Looked and can’t find it. Sorry.

You know it just occurred to me that the shop seems to be down at this time. I’d ask admins on that for some updates on that... paging Grizzly Adam,

Thank you. Got a new truck and need a new decal. The one on my old truck I can’t find anymore. It’s what’s in my avatar.

Well if it's like apple.com, when the store is down that usually means new and exciting ways to be parted from your money is in the works.
I suppose it could also just mean it's broken.

Hey FatBoy85 , I gather you are: A) still in the area and B) Back to using firewood! If I find any large scrounges in Lakewood do you want me to give you a call? Would also appreciate info on your Meat Market connection. Nice load and wood hauler!

Thanks Russ! I’m going to PM you if that’s alright. Back to getting into wood for sure. Just need to get back to splitting and organizing!

I had thought both of these schools as well. It just loads an error screen but I had to wonder about it following @dahmer’s question.

That’s I good scrounge but I won’t touch the stuff. I try to avoid alder like it was cottonwood or western red cedar. I scored some madrone And a bit of fir this evening. Maybe 3/4 cord Of madrone and 3/4 cord fir. It will be my first time working with madrone. I’ll have to put it up for fall 2021 now.

Hard to go wrong for a madrone scrounge. It seasons fast but I try to split it slightly smaller since it works well that size. Last year I had some but it wasn’t split for a stove/insert, fireplace really. Not a good idea, so if the splits are more than 5 inches across in any way, it’s gonna be awhile to dry that out unless it gets put away for awhile.

I agree that some here in WA won’t touch alder/cottonwood but I actually enjoy reloading a stove. Haha! Makes you learn about its nuances a bit more and with the experience of burning lower BTU woods in a smaller space, it was super cozy so when I burned square wood(blocked oak or maple etc) these would be like my coveted pieces to burn only when it dropped pretty low and if I were staying more at home.

Guess I don’t mind having the lower end as it still heats surprisingly well when it’s a year or so split w was and stacked. I did procure some oak before the Stay-at-home orders and the stuff was down I think he said 3 months and the tree was dying. Boy was it heavy and WET along with collecting one load in a downpour... Anyways it was something to do for about a week or so. Either that wood will be sold or used otherwise...likely used when it’s cracking cold.
