Same here. I don't wear shorts very often unless of course im hangin by the water somewhere havin a cold one . Guys at work think im nuts because i wear jeans most of the summer when we're allowed to wear shorts. I just tend to get too many leg injuries (cuts, scratches, bruises) when i wear shorts.
Shorts and a tee shirt pretty much whatever I'm doing about 7-8 months of the year, even sanding fiberglass resin on my Whaler! Chainsaw use is about the only exception.
Heck, you couldn't sell squat on Thistle's forehead! Now this is what I call profitable selling space! (my daughters agree)
I hear ya on those. For construction clothes in the summer, they might just last one season, throwaways come sept. My tool belt pockets seem to reek havoc on the shorts past the pockets.
And to further your post joful, I end up taking what used to considered "nice" shorts (casual wearing) into work shorts as the new shorts come in.
I tried it, cutting with shorts, can't do it. My wife saw what came out of my boots and kicked me out of the house. Collected too much stuff in nooks and crannies. So if I do have to cut in the summer heat, I plan on working early in the morning when it's coolest and then cut out by say 1ish.
Nice looking boat you have there. How old is it? The reason I ask is BW as produced in mass until they moved to Fla. It could be a Mass produced boat and if so, right down the street from where I live.
When buying new, it's Walmart cheapies. I go through jeans way too fast to spend more. I also go to the local free stores/Goodwill and find something in my size for virtually nothing. Just came in from mowing part of the lawn, and I think it's time for the shorts. It's a pair I've had for over 7 years that have a little paint on 'em from the pole barn build. Amazingly, they still fit.
My work wear (around the house anyway) for this time of year is some dri-fit shorts and sandals for pretty much everything not involving a chainsaw. I put on some old shoes when I run the trimmer. I'll put a shirt on if I'm going to be in the sun for more than a couple hours. I don't really run the saw much this time of year unless I have a tree branch come down. I'll put on some jeans for that. One time I cut up an a walnut tree in shorts. Something about the walnut juice mixed with sweat about rotted off the front of my shins. I won't do that again.
It's a 1962 16', very early model. It was ready for the junk yard when I picked it up and have been working on it for 3 years off/on. I was 7 years old when it was made!
Man, I got some tees years ago that are the best I've ever had. They are Duofold made with Coolmax Alta, super lightweight. If you hold them up, you can see through pretty well. A faint breath of air movement blows right through, but you can't see through when wearing them. Hand feels better than cotton, and they wick like crazy! But they were rare...can't find that fabric anywhere now. All this jockwear like Starter etc. feels like I'm wearing a rubber shirt.; You have to be running 20 mph for it to work, fer crapsake! These old Alta shirts aren't too durable...they would get shredded quick out in the woods. I've got about six of them...trying to make them last as long as I can. For workwear, my wife has been finding me short-sleeve dress shirts at thrift stores, like this one that is a 65/35 blend, thin, wicks pretty well, and is baggy with buttons for plenty of airflow.
I've found in the last 2 or 3 years. That if I go to the end of the year clearance at Keys location in Kansas. That I can get my years supply of clothes for a fraction. Maybe a second or odd ball here and there, but for the most part its what stock they have before the end o f the year inventory happens. I can get pants for like $10-15 dollars and shirts for like $5 - 8 dollars. They last me a year, I'm tickled. I usually figure on a 6 months rotation. Especially in my work environment (grease/oil/snags).
Worked with a guy that had like 8" of forehead. "Hey Gerald... You've got a mosquito on your five head" Thistle... just friendly ribbing, I hope it didn't puss you off!
And I'm a pants guy too. I haven't worn shorts in well over 15 years. Would get 100+ in Idaho and I'd still have on double front logger Carhardts.
