Last few days have been busy at work with the fields drying out so we have been in full swing at work, 12 hour days. I had a big chunk of oak I got the okay to cut that fell down in a field at work last year and I was able to get a lot of it before winter but then I couldn't get out there. Sense we are starting to work up the fields I wanted to try and get most of it cleaned up, I got a truck load but still most of the trunk is there. That's what's left.
The last photo makes it look smaller then it is. I took that photo when I first started working on it. 20" bar on the saw. Really hoping it will hand split with the isocore, otherwise I don't think I can man handle the into the truck,. I'm not Buzzsaw Brad lol. After I got the truck loaded and went to leave, I found out that it was still a little muddy with the weight and only 2wd it took me a bit to get out.
I use the Isocore to section big uns prior to loading! Ive learned im not a Spring chicken anymore and neither is my back! Some good firewood to come out of that. What species of oak is that? Cant say ive ever seen in around here.
buZZsaw BRAD I hear ya on that, after loading and unloading a few of the big ones tonight that wouldn't split after working from 5 am to 4 40 pm my back is done. I am not sure what kind of oak it is. I forgot to get photos of the few I split up before I covered them with the limb wood. Mag Craft You are right, it is a jonsered 2071 turbo. I got it used in fall, it was sitting for 5-6 years, took very little to get it running again. It's cut about 11 cord of wood this year. I would love to find someone to go through it and port it, maybe even a big bore on it if that is worth it or not
I would noodle if the isocore didn’t work.... had back problems in my late teens from lifting giant rounds. Luckily it didn’t last, but that stuff had to be heavy. Nice work though!!!
Use your saw to cut a kerf 2-3-4" deep, then try the isocore in the kerf...if that doesn't work then use the hammer side to drive some wedges into the kerf...that'll split it. That's what I did with a large red oak that was in a really wet area recently...works well.
Well, long over due but I had a short day at work today so I started in of the trunk. For almost all of it. Just a little bit left that I can hopefully get tomorrow. What's left. The load home.
Woo, finally got it all. Had to noddle 2 of them, started on the 3rd and said screw it and threw it in the truck as was... Okay more like lifted with all I had and just made it on the tailgate. Buts it's in lol.
