We live in a rural environment and down the road from us lives a retired dairy farmer. He has several buildings in a bad state of repair and has a HUGE wood chuck problem. That’s his problem not mine but when the chucks get so over crowded they cross the road and start digging into my rock walls. Then it becomes my problem. My little 10-22 Stainless Walnut Mannlicher does a very good job in this regard but I upped my game last night. A Remington Model Seven laminate in 223 followed me home. A short 18.5” barrel with a 1 in 9 twist should be minute-of-death in the accuracy department once I scope it. In the last three years my lil 22 has dispatched 24 wood chucks they just keep a coming
My grandson was born in July and still sucking his thumb but I just bought him his first rifle. He gets it on his 12th birthday so that means Grandpa is going to play with his new gun for 12 years. Remington Model 600 in 243Win. ‘‘Tis my 3rd Remington 600 also have a 308Win and a 350 Rem Mag. The wood is about 80% condition but the metal work rates mid 90. Good gun to give a kid as it has some patina already.
The first grandson born on my watch became a gun owner at the ripe age of 4 hours old. I was on my way to a gun show when I got the call that he had joined us. He will be 2 on St. Patrick’s day
Anyone have an interest or need for M1 Garand parts? Front sight, bolt, op rod and full trigger assembly all Springfield and off an operating rifle. Let me know!!!
I once had the exact gun in .308, I really liked it, bought it new, but then something came along I "Really" liked better so I let it go in a trade... Actually made a couple bucks.
I have since scoped the Model Seven. A straight 4 power Leupold sits atop it and it is very accurate more so than the Ruger Ranch rifle it replaced. Satisfied so far but the resident wood chucks are still sleeping,,,,
While that is a very nice rifle, I was hoping to see that 10-22 Stainless Walnut Mannlicher. You rolling your own for that .223 or buying factory?
I have a buddy that reloads he keeps me stocked. Although I do buy some factory loads at Cabelas when they are on sale. I tend to stay away from berdan primers.
I got two new toys to play with! Weatherby Carbonmark in .257wby mag, wearing a Leupold VX5HD CVA Optima V2 50Cal ML Pisto
Just saw this. My 10-22 was a Talo Gander Mountain exclusive. Very accurate little gun. Oh by the way, My Model Seven in 223 is 3 for 4 on woodchucks. Yep, one got away on me!
Ever come to a conclusion on this? Personally I would recommend a 204 Ruger. Very high velocity with light frangible bullets. One of the safest methodologies for shooting in cramped environments. Bullets destroy themselves on first impact basically negating ricochets or tumbling down range hitting unintended targets. A flat shooting trajectory at closer ranges also as opposed to tossing footballs of lead Not the best choice for terminal lethality. The 308 would shine for that of course. But when safety becomes a factor it’s the way to go.
Actually I am borrowing a few right now see which one I like Ruger chambered in 357 mag is in lead. Enough takedown power bullet nose dives past 200 yards at range
Just because it nosedives doesn’t mean it stops Had a neighbor that made that mistake once. Bounced a pistol round right through another neighbors window. Anyhow at 800 yards your probably fairly safe.
R700 AAC-SD .308 16.5" 1:10 twist in a McRees chassis (folding), SWFA 3-15x42 FFP MIL scope. Talley base and rings. Timney Elite Hunter 3lb. trigger.
My grandson will be two years old in July and he already has a 4 gun arsenal. Just picked him up a walnut stocked Marlin 883 tubular mag in 22WMR. He already has a 22LR, 243Win, and a 30.30Win. Gonna start working on shotguns next! It’s what grandpas do!
