I saw this on another forum and thought it might be appreciated here: Perspective: Why Southern California Is Different than Real America You may have heard on the news about a southern California man put under 72-hour psychiatric observation when it was found he owned 100 guns and allegedly had (by rough estimate) 100,000 rounds of ammunition stored in his home. The house also featured a secret escape tunnel. My favorite quote from the dimwit television reporter: “Wow! He has about a quarter million machine gun bullets.” The headline referred to it as a “massive weapons cache”. By southern California standards someone owning 100,000 rounds would be called “mentally unstable.” Just imagine if he lived elsewhere: In Arizona , he’d be called “an avid gun collector”. In Texas , he’d be called “a novice gun collector”. In Utah , he’d be called “moderately well prepared”, but they’d probably reserve judgment until they made sure that he had a corresponding quantity of stored food. In Montana , he’d be called “The neighborhood ‘Go-To’ guy”. In Idaho , he’d be called “a likely gubernatorial candidate”. In Wyoming , he’d be called “an eligible bachelor”. In Wisconsin , he’d be called “a deer hunting buddy”. And, in Alabama , we just call him “Bubba”.
After the new town shooting they called the kid and his mom crazy for their "massive arsenal with thousands of rounds of ammo" they had like 600-700 of those I believe were .22 bullets. And they had like 5 guns if I remember right? I think maybe 3 pistols? There was only a few hundred rounds of pistol in a few calibers. Wonder if they realize most pistol ammo for target shooting is sold in 50 or 100 round boxes? Am am not even a HUGE gun nut and I have that beat!! I mean I have almost or do have that many guns just to hunt. And I dont have nearly enough .22 after the shortage and I kept shooting it and could not buy It..I eventually stopped and have aquired a bit more. But I use to shoot 200-500 .22 easy at the range for a day. I think I half half of the "new town arsenal quantity in 7.63x39 probably. I dont know how much I have. I shoot it a buy at the time and half boxes stashed around. It just amazes me were all in the " gun culture" Us law a biting citizens and the criminals??? I guess the car culture includes all the nascar fans collectors and drunk drivers??(paraphrased from can newton?
So depressing that Colorado wouldn't be included in that list. Everyone that I know would say- " Well, that's a start!"
That makes for a good story but it's been the victim of the "telephone" game I think. He was put under watch after exposing himself in public and the cops finding his home packed floor to ceiling with junk, to include the guns. http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/201...llegedly-exposed-himself-at-glendora-wal-mart Police confiscated more than 100 shotguns, rifles and pistols during an early morning raid Friday at the home of a man who is suspected of exposing himself at Wal-Mart in Glendora. Police brought John Steiner, 58, to a psychiatric institution for evaluation and possible treatment, Glendora Police Lt. Tim Staab said. That decision was made after officers raided his home at 18835 E. Mauna Loa Avenue, in an unincorporated county area near Glendora at 7:30 a.m., Staab said. The home was so cluttered with boxes and other items that it was difficult for officers to maneuver inside the house. Staab said he's never seen anything like it before. “Every room was just stacked to the rafters with boxes,” Staab said. “There's a television show out there called 'Hoarders' that this house would certainly compete with.” Among the items the man was hoarding was ammunition and more than 100 firearms — so many guns that police had yet to finish counting them by late Friday afternoon. Police served the warrant after they received two reports of a man strolling around Wal-Mart and exposing his genitalia. After reviewing store surveillance footage, police identified Steiner, Staab said. “Clear as day you can see him ... exposing himself to numerous people,” Staab said. “He would walk up and down the aisle, look, and when someone passed by he would reach to his crotch area and expose his genitalia and walk around, and then cover himself back up and continue looking,” he said. A woman first reported that her 9- and 11-year-old children witnessed the behavior on July 4. She did not report the incident to police, however, until days later, Staab said. On July 13, police received a second report of a man exposing himself at the store, Staab said. Police decided that bringing Steiner to a psychiatric hospital would be more productive than arresting him, Staab said. Prosecutors, however, will make the final decision after police present their evidence to them, Staab said. Depending on the psychiatric evaluation, there's a chance the man may never get his guns back, Staab said.
An avid reloader shooting a few different calibres could have 2-3,000 rounds at any given time. It's what they do, for sport, for target and for protection. Once the media gets ahold of anything gun related it gets blown up. And like BK's post, most who report don't even know the lingo....
Southern Ca. and the nation of gun owners is better off with Steiner not having weapons! Gives owners a bad name, no?
