Splitter Wars is a collaboration between 8 YouTubers. There are 7 different types of splitters and a maul. This is not a competition. It is a demonstration of different types of splitters. Hopefully this will help people figure out what kind of splitter they need.

    Here is the line up:
    Splitting maul
    Brave Dual Split
    Wolfe Ridge 28 Pro
    Eastonmade 12-22
    Homemade Box Wedge
    Splitfire 3403
Homemade Tractor PTO powered 44GPM pump
    Split Second Kinetic

    The Rules:
    Split a facecord/ 1/3 cord of wood
The wood has to be a hardwood
The wood should be 12-15'' in diameter and 16'' in length

Here is the playlist of all of our videos:

Interesting. It would leave us out in my area, due to the hardwood part, but I have some corvid insomnia. I'm going watch it for fun. T

I’ve seen many of Joe Lesages videos before, he’s a neat guy with a lot of talent. Looks like all the splitters did well. Thanks for sharing.

Not a conventional hydraulic splitter in the bunch, which most of us run.

I’m not sure what you mean by conventional, but the Wolfe Ridge and Eastonmade are normal hydraulic splitters. They may have faster cycle times, multi way wedges, and a log lift, but still a hydraulic. I assume you mean a foreign made budget cheap money hydraulic splitter.

I mean a standard ram, single wedge splitter that the average person would go down and buy. The guy that uses a few cords of wood a year, or even the guy that sells 30 cords a year would use. Most guys wont, can't, or even justify a $5k plus splitter.

The Brave dual split is around $1800. The most expensive splitter by far was the Eastonmade. Then the Wolfe Ridge. The homemade ones really can’t be priced by us, and the other three are around $1,500-$2,000. I wouldn’t consider any of them other than perhaps the Eastonmade, expensive. These guys are all splitting multiple full cords a year. Some sell firewood as well.

The brave dual split was the cheapest.

    These splitters would perform similar.

Like to see electric in the mix- -quiet, run when convenient, cheaper than gas, much less maintenance, no fuel bills.
Some are as fast and powerful as gas.
Unfortunatel my older electric is slow, slow. DR lied about recyle time.

Company by the name of posch makes several different electric splitters. Don’t know if they’re available on this side of the pond, but you should check them out on YouTube. Pretty impressive!

Got my tw5 out today to begin dealing with my “rounds situation”! Works very well. Have had it for probably 8 or so years. Very well built and haven’t had a single problem with it. My only complaint is that I could handle the beam being another foot higher than it is. Being 6’2”, I find myself having to bend over more than I’d like. 56166C00-E7BD-4B27-A3BA-8A908749A176.jpeg 7B5A9473-BB16-4D90-9802-68D1A96EA69A.jpeg C28F2549-E5A7-4897-AC85-A9105A8FADFE.jpeg

That’s a good idea. I had it set up once in my barn for a while and put it on jack stands. It worked pretty good but I like your idea better. I’ll give it a try:axe:
