It sort of like a Holz Housen, only without the planning or the effort... also pronounced half-azzing. I had some white and red oak that some how didn’t make the stacks with the locust coming in over the winter. I didn’t put anything under this, but I tried to put bark down splits on the bottom. Maybe next time around, I’ll dig out an even spot and drop a pallet first. I have some chunks I’m going to throw in the middle, and maybe some of these red maple uglies I just about threw my shoulder on.
It's not unattractive! It will probably be ok on the mulch. Looking pretty green down there, we're just budding out.
I added a bit to the Haulph-Haussen. Some red maple splits off of my pile of red maple uglies I got for a six pack on another thread. Based on splitting these uglies, I don’t know why it is called soft maple. The benefit of having a pile like this is that I finally have a place to put all my cut offs and chunks. I loaded up tHe center and next year around this time, between the chunks and red maple, I figure I’ll have some shoulder season wood. Then I could restack the oak or leave it one more before stacking it dryer.
Thank you... I think that is why I got a little extra time with the axe today, one of the birthday week perks. With our couple of little ones running around, it takes extra effort to keep them away from the tv these days when you’re not even supposed to go to the park. I grilled up some steak and wings in my own honor and had a zoom with the extended family earlier in the day. Happy my birthday one and all.
I like the pyramid stack. A challenge i imagine with nuglies. Happy belated birthday to you! try splitting soft mape with the ends damp with no checking. Splits easier that way IME
