I think the large logs in the second picture are
Black Locust, what do y'all think?
    Yeah I know it's a 2-hour drive from Columbus,
but to me it's worth it for a truck/trailer load of
BL, with maybe a little dead ash to top it off.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Large Ash logs can look like that. The bark is similar on both but usually larger and deeper on BL. Even if it is "just" Ash, it's still a pretty good batch of firewood. We've heated with Ash mostly for years.

MAF143, thanks for the quick reply! I was thinking the same thing. I know Ash is pretty good
firewood, but I already have about 3 cords of it. I'm not inclined to drive 2 hrs. unless it's top-notch
wood like BL, Honey Locust, Hickory, or Oak. I've got a score of BL lined up in the near future, as
soon as the guys tree service goes back to work, so I'll just wait for that to happen. It should be a good
score because 1 tree is about 18" DBH and the other one is about 24" DBH. I may have to make 2
trips with the F-150 and my 5x8 trailer to get it all, but that's a good thing.

Looks like ash. Didn'y see black locust. Went back for a second look but the post was gone. Given your location I'd bet it was 99% ash.

Yeah, I missed the listing. But if it's ash, and you already have a good amount, then it seems pointless to drive that distance for something that you can probably early obtain a lot closer.

For sure. We have enough wood right at home so no need to go looking for more. In addition, I've been given free access to a big bunch of oak tops from logging and it is right across the road from us so just like being on our own place; easy pickings. Now on the ash, we don't have much left to cut and by the time I get around to cutting what is left it will probably be too far gone to mess with. It's okay now with all that oak gifted to us.
