I was on a mini road trip last Sunday when I saw a humongous locust tree. The bark was cavernous. I nearly ran off the road while murmuring something about Buzzsaw under my breath. My buddy riding shotgun says, "one, you ok? two, did you say Buzzsaw?" I blamed it on being tired, stopped for a coffee and never spoke of it again. THE ADDICTION IS REAL.
Thats some nice stuff Ron T Was that from that huge score last Winter? That was really an impressive score....i guess if im still talking about.
Thats hysterical! LOL!!! No not almost running off the road. I know the addiction is real! You should drive with me sometime. I know almost every locust grove in my hometown. Its a serious medical condition. jo191145 named it locust mania. One grove is a backyard full of mature trees. Im tempted to stop and ask to cut a couple down. Can you imagine the look on the homeowners face if i did that?
almost doesnt look like locust as the bark isnt as deeply furrowed. Great logs. You milling them or someone else? Id like to see pics of the lumber if you do. Keep on hoarding...especially locust!
Somehow I missed this. No I haven’t been back to the locust grove. I have some sugar and some ash I need to process, the locust grove isn’t going to rot so I’m going to get the maple and ash takin care of. Your a busy man Brad
Wow, Brad......that's all I can say...you are a machine on a quest. Really nice work you are doing. Sell some and burn some, give a little away. Gr6 job, buddy.
Jonesing to hit the quest and did so today. I intended to go in back, buck and remove a broken top as pictured but started pulling buried logs. I was going to debark and leave them for next time, but opted to cut and load. Cleared the way and bucked a few rounds off this trunk. One round left which badly dulled the saw from rootball dirt.. Discovered another trunk under this one. Trees fell like dominoes. You can see what i had to hack thru. Log buried by all the vegetation and debris. Had to stop and sharpen saw twice. Hit a steel threads on this almost buried tire and wasnt going to do it again. Finished up with a dull chain. No back up chain with me. Average load for the quest. Hour and a half with 20 minutes spent sharpening. Split it all. Pics before and after. Left a lot of splits upright to get rained on. I took walk to check out the four other trees in back. Lot of good wood, but i have to walk the rounds out. Last pic tree is maybe 24" Maybe debark and leave for next year. Im thinking one more trip for next weekend. Then on to site three,
Midwinter im wondering if i buck trunk sections to 4' if i can get them out or too heavy. Im thinking of going that route. Maybe ill try with the last top i want to get this weekend. The terrain in the wooded part isnt that bad. Half of the walk is on grass. Guess i dont wanna schlep the hand truck with me.
Didnt hit the quest last weekend due to other unexpected scores. but made time this afternoon. Last trip to this area for this season. Bucked one top into 4' sections and used hand truck to move them to truck, then buck to length. Cut the last small trunk i discovered in front Part of it buried under debris. Freed it from its stump. Bucked the last round off a stump in front too. Made sure i brushed off the bark and mud this time...no dulling. No frozen crud either. water inside this round. took it to my friends and split it all. Battery died on my camera and couldnt gets picks of the stacks. Well over two cords of locust now and the quest continues onto site number three. Close to my friends and ill be able to get bigger loads. Still have to work in though. Stay tuned!
