When I built houses with my dad, he knew building code, and had a thinking mind. To have both sides of it in a working environment was nice. Plus, he didn’t have to constantly remind me. I simply saw what he was doing framing-wise, and followed suit. Never seen a failure or an unexpected swag in anything he/we ever built. And now that he’s gone, I always hear his voice when I consider a project, be it at the house here, or helping/advising a friend.... and in my daily job which is no where close to the building trades.
    Temperament is the key.

Right. That’s good and the way it should be.
Example, lots of members talk about finding BTU charts around the net, but here at FHC we have an excellent BTU chart (sortable, too) that is often linked in threads. And yes, some back and forth occurs, but the Resource that Grizzly Adam put together is thorough yet concise. It’s a one stop shop. There doesn’t need to be a rambling on to convince most that white oak is better than Shag (or vice-versa), because quite frankly... now catch this... “to each his own.”
I’m not saying “to each his own” on code, but the extent that Joe Homeowner and his buddy want to do things..... that’s on them.
There’s no reason to educate when the setting isn’t right for education.
Just like “tree ID” threads don’t break down into pizzing contests about what in fact some one is seeking help on. We help. We withhold when necessary.
    Again..... Temperament is key.

So you don't think that potentially dangerous advice from a professional should be corrected or clarified? After the discussion it seems Jo although not to code absolutely does thinks in a pretty safe manner. But the original comment about insulation requirements could easily cause a safety issue for someone who didn't understand all of the issues at play.

I just don't believe many people would honestly follow the link. I just don't understand why code discussions are frowned upon? Can you please explain it to me.

Hmmmmm.... suspect opinion..... a non sequitor assumption.
If one could draw a line or measure by percentages, based on your very statement ^^^^..... being nice, I’d say (generously) 50% love the straight recitation of code, and the other 50% would say something about the delivery of said information.
    Judge it how you will.
Good night to you, sir :sir:

    Why delete your post BH?
On second thought, I’m done with this chit.
Carry on however you see fit. Or, go back to the place where you don’t act like this.
    Ok- bye bye now.

Because I felt no need to extend a childish argument when my point was made. Someone has to be the bigger man.

If they are not frowned upon why do I get harassed every time I mention a code? You guys wonder why I am not nicer? Look at the responses to my factual posts and you will see why. It all started because I said that it was a myth that burning pine was bad. And that I said it is against code to install a solid fuel burner in a garage. Both of those things are absolute fact yet each time a moderator had a problem with it.

You may want to direct that towards the people who can't handle the mention of codes.
