Anybody on here burn alot of hemlock? I live in Sullivan county NY and there is a ton of it in my area. Got alot down in the woods on my property. Ive got the time to cut and split, so is it worth burning if only in the fall and spring? I hate to see it go to waste if i can use it. Thanks

I mix it in with my white pine even though the hemlock is a bit higher BTU. Burned pine all day today. Just had to load the stove a little more often.
    I think it's worth it.
Cutting, splitting, stacking and using it sure beats rotting on the couch watching CNN.

    Welcome to posting Matt Johnson

I asked that very question not long ago, was advised same as you..

    Dry it, it'll burn fine.

Was told it has less sap/ pitch than Pine as well.

Thanks guys looks like ive got my work cut out for me. Always hated seeing it cut down and left to rot on the side of the road. Ive had the firewood hoarding bug for a few years now. Seems my wife is catching it too because shes starting to tell me about possible scores that she sees lol.

I had some of the stuff and it didn’t split really easily, kind of a blend of pine and redwood, its soft but its grain is muddled so prepare for those odd like splits that kinda twist. I’d burn it if I had some.

I would take it if free and not much work - when dry burns fine. BTW - my parents are from that area. Along the Delaware & route 97 between French Woods and Long Eddy, Hankins to Calicoon, both sides of the river. Nice scenic area. Lots of good memories growing up. No family left down there. Perhaps I’ll take a drive Memorial Day weekend to visit gramps gravestone - he was a Korean war vet.
