wildwest a piece of friendly advice, if your going to move look at it now.. as you know we also have 1 child, and bottom line is this, my wife will be no more than 3 hours from Liz, until Liz has our grandchildren, at which point that will be 10 minutes away! Preferably have 50 acres and build them a house just over the rise. In short, I can do whatever I want but momma is holding them babies

Thanks :) We will not figure out if we are moving or not for several months, and if we are, it will take a lot of research. The distance between kiddo and her Grandma being a plane flight instead of a drive away is a huge deterrent. We are finally closer, only 1.25 hours apart again after all these years and she and kiddo are tight. Too many things to consider while WWW researches cost of living and housing and climates, I'm just not ready to look hard til we find out if we're still tied here in a few months, much less weigh moving away from her grandma and my Dad's wife...... TBD.

    Good Advice Taken :handshake:

Decided to check the temperatures in the three places we are looking at for retirement. The place in Northern Minnesota-19, our current location 0, the place in Kentucky 67.

We need to go to the grocery store to pick a few items up this morning. I shouldn’t dread going to the store, stupid weather

That is rare for here. It’s supposed to be 70 today, a record.

I have to agree with Eric here, I drove out and the areas out there are beautiful. There is land to be found, I looked. "My" only issue with Virginia is it's a common wealth and personal property taxes every year on things like cars, boats etc... I don't know the full details and I believe every county is a bit different.

I’m actually not sure, I get outside all the time. I just look at all the time I feel like is wasted during late fall to early spring. I’m tired of moving snow and having my face hurt by just walking outside.

I’m not sure if I would actually like it somewhere else but I’m getting closer to giving it a try. I’m sure spring will hit and I will be happy once again.

Talked to a buddy last week and him and you sound the same. He and wife left for Ca. to visit with daughter/grandchild for 3 weeks; come back here and immediately head to Jamaica. After that, down to Fl. for who knows how long.

I told him they will miss all the fun!

Michigan town 'stinks;' Council buys marijuana odor device
Is that a skunk? No, it's marijuana

BESSEMER, Mich. -- Is that a skunk? No, it's marijuana.

A small town in Michigan's western Upper Peninsula is buying an odor-detection device and drafting an ordinance to crack down on the unpleasant smell of blooming marijuana plants.

Bessemer City Manager Charly Loper said the Nasal Ranger could be used to check a variety of bad-air complaints, but she acknowledged that marijuana appears to be the key target.

“The city of Bessemer stinks,” council member Linda Nelson said Monday as the council voted to buy the device, which will cost $3,400 with training. "You can smell marijuana everywhere. We've got people who can't sit in their backyard because the smell from their neighbor is so bad.”

Medical marijuana has been around since 2008. But Michigan's 2018 law, which cleared the way for homegrown pot for recreational use, has brought challenges to communities.

The odor problem in Bessemer, population 1,905, occurs when marijuana plants are in bloom, especially during warmer months, Loper told The Associated Press.

“The bloom period lasts six to eight weeks,” Loper said Thursday. "A lot of people describe it as a skunk-like odor. It can be strong.

“We're treading very softly in this area,” she said. “People have a right to grow marijuana in their house, but everyone needs to be considerate of their neighbors so the odor isn’t affecting their enjoyment of the outdoors.”

Bessemer is 6 miles (9.5 kilometers ) from the Wisconsin border. The Michigan law has attracted people from Wisconsin and Minnesota who are buying houses and growing marijuana indoors, Loper said.

It's possible that some Bessemer residents might require an air-filtration system in their homes, she said.

“Somebody's got to take a stand. This is a piece of equipment we need," council member Terry Kryshak said of the Nasal Ranger.

The council voted 4-1 in favor of the device, the Daily Globe reported.

SammyWhammy What ever you do, DON'T COME TO New Jersey! HELL resides in this state! Not to mention, you'll never find anything over 5 acres at a reasonable price. If you do, you'll pay $50,000 a year in taxes! Stay away, stay far, far away!

We are going to go down and check the area out in February. Not really expecting much, just going to look at the different areas and see if there is a place we like.

We are going to try Williamsburg KY for our first trip. It’s close to Tennessee as well so hopefully we will be able to check out a few areas.

With the recent event last November, Virginia is going to give New Jersey real competition. I can't say a lot here in the forum but searches on the net will show what I mean. Sad really.
Yes, I read just the other day that people are leaving New Jersey because of high property taxes the number one reason. The richest man in New Jersey left to Florida (no state income tax) a year or so ago.

Beautiful area. I was through there a couple times on business 15 years ago. Some back country roads looked as if time stood still for 50 years. Daniel Boone National forest has some amazing scenery.
