Its always said on FHC no pics it didnt happen. Well it didnt happen. I had intended to split a couple with the guys hydro, but he finished up and was pulling the splitter to the garage to put it away. Took a pic for laughs.
I used to love to hand split. but soon learned that running a splitter is just as much work. you just get more done. kewl pic. thanks for sharing.
Nope, machine was off and guy was ready to put it away. I did observe a few times real quick and did plop a few rounds up there if it was empty while he was splitting and i was bringing a round to the staging area. The pile behind me is what he didnt split.
I had split some, primarily when I am deep in the woods, away from home, or its easy to hand split. I think I would emphasize easy to split. I love the exercise at times swinging the fiskars maul, but I am so busy I try to get things done quick when splitting. If I have several nice rounds of ash, I will hand split in a heart beat. When I get into 20 inch long, by 30 inch diameter hickory or beech....the splitter is out for sure. You must be stronger than an ox if you split all of those scores by hand......
My buddy joe has that same splitter. I split 80% of his wood, its a beast and pretty fast for a hydro.
Not as strong and almost as smart as one! The ease of splitting is the most important factor when i scrounge wood. Hard to split/knotty i dont touch. I know my limits and wont hesitate to noodle if needed. I like splitting by hand, just dont like killing myself in the process. The brief times i observed the guy using it i said, i could split this faster. It was white ash and was splitting esy for the most part. I did use the maul to make the bigger rounds more manageable for him. The guy was retirement age and had hip issues. Some of my posts i dont take the wood. If there is a pic of it in my truck, then its mine!
just use it ,before you know it you will have your own ,even with a splitter it is a workout to pick up and split your rounds ,the only shame is turning it vertical and splitting sitting down
