Anybody out there have any experience with gum trees. I got some the other day and split it. It had a pink core and white outside. It split but wasn't stringy like sweet gum. The bark was heavy and dark grey, it was full of water. Hope it burns good next year, I got a lot of it.
Yup, like jrider said, not stringy, not gum. Can you take some pics vwsherm ? There are a lot of trees that look similar
All the gum I’ve had was damm near impossible to split due to the stringiness. If it is gum I’d get it top covered soon - the stuff I had got moldy when I left it out.
Certainly looks like cherry to me too. I bite at the wood id game tho. Never had any gum either. From what I’ve learned here your well ahead of the game. Most people won’t even bother cutting gum. Cherry on the other hand is a good firewood.
The wood looks like cherry. I've had yellow bellied sap sucker holes in my apple and weeping cherry trees before.
Im with every one else... wood looks like cherry, but bark doesnt. Could it be Bradford pear??? This is some i scrounged last March. I didnt know what i was and FHC identified it as such. The end color sure looks similar. pile of splits
Any chance it is red bud? i don’t think it is ornamental cherry.. or it would have horizontal bands around it. I’m thinking Bradford or maybe redbud? Both burn pretty hot I believe.
