Due to a slow moving day long projected snow event, work has been cancelled today. I feel like a kid at Christmas. I’m tempted to go out in the snow and process some pine for this coming fall.
Pine seems to be the new IN thing on the hoarders forum. Im almost inclined to try some but I have to make the most of my BTU’s with limited storage.
I will split and stack in the snow but usually not cut. I’ve slipped and fell in the snow too many times.
I enjoy felling on a snowy day, but the CSS waits for the brief spell between snow and black flies. Have fun today! We have bare ground in the yard this morning and are expecting 2”-4” (work was not cancelled).
I just told my wife (who’s a teacher) my plan. She said “you know! There’s plenty to do in here, like laundry!” .....right....right....well time to go!
I will c/s/s and mill in the snow, makes little difference to me. I'd rather that than sweat my arse off in the heat of summer.
Not usually. I plow driveways and on a good storm, I will do 40-50 of them but not until the snow is over so I usually rest up before hand as well as play in it with the kids.
2x6 or 2x8. Those apple planks twisted/cupped/bowed like crazy. I milled a few trees and I’d guess I have 6-10 kinda straight/flat boards. Others will have to be custom used for who knows what.
Not I. I am the weird duck that would rather cut in 80 degree vs 20 degree. Although it looks like we get a couple day reprieve this weekend into the low 30's so I'll be splitting.
Great idea. I will try that next time. Sounds much easier and better than the old section of ladder I use to level my first cuts.
I just got in. More ice/sleet than snow. Ended up with 1.5 cords split and stacked from rounds. It is 95 percent Red Oak, with a little Maple and White Oak as well.
I prefer not to, but I don’t have the luxury of picking the best weather to CSS. When we go to the Farm in Christmas and Thanksgiving it’s CSS no matter the weather. The only time I shut it down on the Farm was a couple years ago when it was below 0 all day. I did some splitting in the shed, but when my eye lids started icing up I had to shut it down! The snow does make CSS a PIA. Wet hands, wet logs, slippery footing, snow all over clothes... I’m sure more I’m not thinking is.
Even though I was by myself, I still had fun. I did hear one of the Red Oak rounds cry out “This is blasphemy.....this is madness!!!” Then I delivered a mighty swing and said “ This is an Isocore” and popped that sucker apart!
