This is the 372xp I grabbed last weekend. Took a few minutes today to run it and checking how well it oiled I noticed it came with a brand I’ve never tried.
Me guess is Quaker State 10w30 with 8500 miles on it.

I’d be concerned about the pick up tube if it had one.

I've never thought to drain the bar oil. Just refill as necessary. But never with motor oil, used or not.

looks like a lot of short trips with that milkshake around the oil cap.
Better run it hard and knock that sludge out of there.

Lots of people do this. I don’t know why when bar oil is so cheap.

I've heard of people doing this, and also have read why not to.
Also some run veg oil, which I hear if left to sit can go putrid.

Spend hundreds of dollars on a saw, and then abuse it to save a quarter? No thanks.

thing is they are spending more money by using motor oil. a quart can cost almost as much as a gallon of bar oil.

They use it after draining from car/truck use, so it's spent and contains contaminants.

Used motor oil is bad stuff for chainsaw bar lube. It doesn't have the tackiness that bar oil does, and it slings into small droplets (mist) that you end up breathing in. .....

The oil out of my Cummins looks better than that at 15,000 miles and it works great as bar lube after it goes thru the engine..................
Sorry but that is all I have ever used.

Ugh. I accidentally added about a tablespoon of used oil from my trucks oil change to my bar oil reservoir a couple weeks ago. I stopped at soon as I realized that while it was a bar and chain oil jug, that it was what I put used oil into.

I doubt it will hurt anything, but it has to fling a lot more.

It will sure make a mess running engine oil. I’ve run new oil before in a pinch but other than that it’s always b/c oil

I watched a friend do this to a brand new saw about a month ago. I would never even think of running used engine oil for bar oil. If for no other reason than it makes the saw and whatever clothes your wearing stink.
