Today I somehow busted the head off my Kawasaki trimmer. Anyone have an idea how to remove this threaded deal? I think it's called an arbor, or so the eBay ad said so. I tried slotting it, using vice grips x2... No go the metal is too soft. It's a great trimmer, got it with an Echo cs330T from a friend for $20... Both needed some love but afterwards were great runners. The little top handle went to an AS member as I am not a fan of those goofy things for ground work and I'm no monkey! Then I tried to get my chipper to turn over, and I did. I then promptly misplaced my SAE socket set and couldn't finish that job. If I get this thing running, I'll sell it and start my "porting funds" jar. And while I'm rambling... Where do you guys with young families find the time? Might be picking up a new pup this weekend to add to the chaos... I mean loving family.
I would use a broken screw/bolt extractor...i would spray it down real good with kroil first let it soak overnite then try to tap it out....those extractor kits are pretty cheap if u got a harbor freight close...
I try to incorporate my boys in a lot of the things I do. 3 boys under 6, 2 dogs, 2 rabbits and 8 chickens. Plus an extra full time job. I run around like a chicken with its head cut off sometimes trying to get stuff done when they are not home and when they are playing well together. I get up extra early sometimes to go cut wood so I am back early in the day. Sometimes you just have to put projects on hold like my month long kitchen project that is in month three or four now.
Sometimes I'm going so slow, I can't seem to get out of my own way these days. You just reminded me of the reality of life with kids and all of the "distractions". I guess it's true... the amount of work done is directly proportional to the amount of time allowed. So, in my case, if a 15 minute job takes a week... then that's how long it's supposed to take...
Yes, I'm pretty sure it is reverse thread. I think it is just a threaded adapter... but badbob's link to the model after mine (mine is a 27A) looks like it is internal to the gearbox. I took it in to work today to have one of the ME's take a whack at it. Well said, my 4 year old girl has a decent amount of interest in whatever I'm doing and I try to encourage that. Even when that means things will take a lot longer, its time well spent. I try to always stage my work that I have some quiet work to finish up after they are in bed - often times stacking wood.
I'm assuming he tried adjusting his mirror... cleaned his glasses... closed his eyes for as long as possible... anything... to keep from having to get out of the truck and walk back to that... ... ...
I haven't personally broken anything today, but there's a very good chance my kids created something else for daddy (me) to fix when he gets home.
