Today is one of those chilly, windy ugly days yet I’m sick of being inside so out I go. The power has flickered out a few times today to my annoyance due to the wind blowing through. I decided to go ahead and do some hand splitting just for the exercise. In the process of digging the fiskars out I found an old axe I had long forgot about! It was the first axe we purchased. I remember putting a new handle on it then a few weeks later buying the next axe which I don’t remember the name of now. This one found a corner and vanished. I gave it a mild filing today and have been doing the small splitting 8” to 15” it feels good to use it again splitting a small pile of cherry. That double head shoots through this stuff with ease.
Nice! Cant beat hand splitting! I had bought a Craftsman double headed axe several years ago, Ended up breaking the fiberglass handle and they gave me a new one. Havent used it in a few years. Have to dust it off and give it a try.
it wasnt from hitting the handle or over strikes. I just wasnt use to the type of axe. The handle was skinny and i beat the H%$L out of my axes.
Nice axe - I inherited one like that from grandpa. My X27 does most of the work around here but I take gramps axe out once in awhile. Happy Thanksgiving everyone
I went out this morning to do a little splitting myself but it was so cold the gas splitter had a tough time getting going and I started using it before it was properly warm and I killed it. Then trying to restart I ended up flooding it. After pulling on the cord enough times to break a sweat and realizing I was making matters worse I decided to just break out the ol Fiskars and swing it instead. Hadn’t used it too much since I got the splitter but it feels good to do some ax swinging and split a little by hand every once in a while.
JBYB was a shorthand abbreviation i had made up years back! In this case you'll hafta get in line and take a number to do so. Im a bustable type of guy so its okay!
She’s doing well she can’t use her hand yet but it’s definitely improving! How’s your better half coming along?
Are they also known as Michigan axes? Dug mine out...buried in the shed. Maybe ill split some later. No small rounds so some sugar maple trunk quarters. Ill add pics later.
Pallet Pete and Backwoods Savage I did not know that your wives needed well wishes until this thread. Please extend to them my wishes!
