I broke down and rebuilt the carbs on my Tecumseh powered blowers this past weekend. One is an Ariens I bought used about 10 years ago. The other is a no-name MTD manufactured model that was left in the barn when I moved last summer. Identical engines, both 8 HP. Both ran last winter but needed to have the choke on to stay running near the end of the season. I thought about selling the one that was left here, but I figure it doesn’t hurt to have a spare blower since it came with the house and it didn’t cost me anything. Can’t say the Ariens has ever given me starting problems. Both have electric start, so I prime it, set the choke, plug in the extension cord and let er rip. My springtime maintenance has been shutting off the gas and shoving it in the barn. Maybe some sta-bil if I think of it. Curious to see the rubber on the impeller trick.
This is the one and only tecumseh that I’ve owned for any length of time and it is infuriating. However it decided to work this year after the China kit so I’ll let it go til it poops out ( if it poops out ) who knows maybe it’s finally gonna cooperate. I am wondering if we got a last model before they closed up shop and disappeared or something. I know a couple people who love their engines. Hopefully that rubber trick works I’m tired of a clogged shoot. If not I know a place with a 13hp that will break shafts throw impellers and probably kill birds from parts flying as the snow blower rattles itself apart. Haven’t had parts fly off mine yet, but I caught a small rock with mine last winter. I heard it hit the impeller and saw it fly out the chute. Thank God I don’t have many neighbors or I’d have caused some damage. Somehow the rock made it through, but a stick I caught a week or so later snapped a shear pin. Go figure.
We'll get a couple of inches here Thursday. It might stick more than the 1.5" we had here this am. Whatever. My blower is in the shed. I'll break it out tomorrow. That also means I need to move crap around in the garage so it fits in there behind my motorcycle. It certainly won't fit behind my truck.
I snow blow out to my wood stacks., and compost bins. About 100 feet. As such, I am always removing any branches that have fallen to avoid snapping a shear pin. I have about a dozen new pins ready for any branches I've missed.
I throw gravel out of mine...If you were on the discharge side, I imagine you would feel like Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi when his world came tumbling down!!
I did the rubber mudflap on the end of my old Ariens blower several years ago. I used it for three seasons before I sold that particular snowblower. The modification works great. Especially in the wet snow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got 4" Tue morning, round 2 starting to night 1-5"or possibly to 8" wet slushy is the description through Thur, ending Thur. night sometime. Haven't cleaned the gutters out yet as the trees still had better than 1/2 of leaves on them - That will be SO much fun after this next Mother Nature tantrum. As of right now I am about dead center of the storm track.
I'm excited to see if it works. Before with a half inch gap. After. I did a dry run. It does make a bit more noise but I sprayed it down with fluid film. I have a 3 propeller? So I did all 3. Mine were pretty thick so I predrilled before I sank the self tappers. Thanks again Pallet Pete !
Thor , You should get a good test tomorrow, right? I think you're in the 3-5" of wet slop snow expected area.
I hope not! But yes. Got a fresh tank of gas and a oil change. We shall see. Light snow here as I type.
It was just starting to flurry when I put the ATV and yard cart away as the daylight was going away. No idea what it's doing now. I really don't care either. I'm prepared.
Umm. We got 7" of we heavy snow. Luckily most of the snow melted from the streets, but they did plow.
I took the axle out completely and went nuts with a grinder talk about RUST! Not anymore it’s clean as a whistle... Then in my ocd style it got an insane amount of anti-seize. It WILL come apart easy next time! That was absolutely insane the rubber mallet turned into a hammer then gear pulled before I got the dang tires off... They where off last year for grease but that obviously failed.. The belts are replaced and suprisingly everything looks really good! A little surface rust but nothing bad. The impeller mod happens tomorrow there is enough junk in my garage that it should go together pretty easily after removing the side access for the impeller. And let me tell ya there is way more space there than I thought between the wall and impeller! A good 3/4” in some spots.... I changed one tire then of course got distracted so I’ll finish tomorrow. O and there’s a fuel shutoff that arrived a few days ago as well as the new plug and primer bulb going on. It’s gonna run gooder again. Today I drained the gas, oil and pulled the plug before I tipped it because well why not don’t need to cause more issues with the pos engine.
