Just a little tease. Enough to fill out the stack and then some. Came from my moms third lawn. She has way too many lawns Even though her son cuts trees for fun she hired a tree service. The big maple was on the road so it made sense for that. This small ash, another small tulip and a few juvenile maples to add to the stacks. There’s no end in sight. Still can’t wrap my head around these tree guys. Tell em to keep everything long as possible and they make weird stuff. Half the cuts weren’t even all the way through. That’s annoying.
Can you throw some additional pics of that trailer and hoist system on here? I admit I am curious!!!!
The big maple on the side of the road was something I’m not gonna tackle. Needed a bucket truck. Few other small dead maples on the road. The ash and the tulip I told her I’d do but she wanted the wood chips more than the money. We hoard wood. Mom hoards wood chips
Mounting the winch. If I were to do it again I’d mount it higher. The height of the rope can be a limiting factor in how high you can stack the logs. The first test of my winch mount welds using a ramp. Tried the ramp method because I was really worried about buckling the dump body by using an arm. Ramp is no fun. Nixed the ramp shortly after. Some judicial added supports to the rear pocket area and it never quivers in the least. First test of the arm. Needed to pick, move and set this stone and came up with this crazy idea. Slide it up the ramp, pick up ramp to move, drop ramp and slide in place. Worked so good it was level within 1/16”” side to side measuring off existing steps. Set it and forget it. One shot done. That’s very rare in the mason biz dry setting stone. Was a good day. Bringing home the bacon. This is still the original arm I built. Had fully intended to use a stronger cross arm but at last minute went with lighter piece equal to the sides. Ended up bending it. Not by the weight of lifting logs but by not paying attention to the hook reaching the pulley. The winch folded it up on me. Doh!!
Thanks for doing that. That is an interesting idea I am thinking a lot about right now. Hard to get much on when the tractor loader is in there.
your welcome. It works pretty well. Not foolproof but I like it a lot. Great for those roadside scrounges where you see a bunch of logs just sitting there. Pull em on, bring em home, dump em and go back for more before the hoards get there LOL If you ever decide to go that route just give a yell. I’ve got lots of tips and tricks to make it easier. Some learned the hard way, some I got right the first time
Awesome trailer setup! I really need to learn how to weld. I’m assuming you made that log arch yourself?
Yep, bought a welder just for this project. Of course it’s amazing how many things around the house need welding once you start And how many still do
