Anyone else see boring bugs in all types of hickory? I think about half of my hickory is full of holes and sawdust, it seems more so than other wood species.

Yes they have their own borer.......I only ever see it in the dead trees though.

I get em every time I have hickory in my stacks. Always leave dust piles in the split below.

Yes, cut split and stack it and the borers still attack it. Its still worth the effort and the dust piles.

I find them in my hickory as well. Even if CSS and covered. If its dead its food for something and nature finds a way to get to it.
Find sawdust piles in maple and oak too. Different borer in hickory as the entry holes are bigger.

Yes, just cut some on Monday, logs had been dropped a year ago and the borers were coming out plentiful.

Last weekend I dropped what I hoped would be a really nice stand dead Hickory. Turned out to be dried punk wrapped in bark, with lots of little holes. Back at the stump I came across this guy. And this was only the first half. Right in the dead center of the tree

I’m in jersey and get them as well, usually just under the bark, I spritz it with diesel fuel after splitting and it tends to keep the critters away, I don’t soak the wood, just a little spritz, works quite well
